My job just posted the new florida law on guns at work on our bulletine board. They highlighted it must be locked in the vehicle and you must have a carry permit.
I work at a small shop about 110 people but we have only a hand full of permit holders. One guy tells everyone the rest of us keep it to ourselves.I don't like people knowing I have a gun in my truck or that I'm a permit holder.
Does anyone else in florida have this issue that doesn't work at disney?
They haven't said so but I take it they don't like the new law.

The way I understood the law is that only one employee needs to have a carry permit. As long as one employee has one, everyone can put their guns in their cars.

But that's my interpretation.

It is Florida's Employee right to self defense law. If you see it written incorrectly please strike out the improper spelling and change to the proper usage.

The law states that they have no say over what goes on inside of your vehicle so you can ignore anything they post on the bulletin Board.

If your uncomfortable with allowing people to know you carry then don't let them know you carry.

You don't have to have a concealed carry permit for this to apply. Florida law allows anyone to keep a firearm in their vehicle as long as it is legally owned. The new law simply takes that further to say businesses can't prevent you from having that firearm locked in your car while you are parked in the lot. Exceptions being schools, correctional facilities, nuclear power plants, et cetera. A Florida CCW is only needed if you are going to be carrying the weapon in public.

The court decision was a bit ambiguous. I believe you can only keep the gun in your car at a work place that forbids it if you have a permit. If the company does not have a written policy, then you can keep a gun in your car without a permit.

A lot of businesses seem to think their right to do business trumps your constitutional rights as a citizen, and the "company rules" exhibit it all the time.

Our company rules ban firearms "on company property", which is at odds with both state law and the 2nd Amendment. The way they're handling it, is to make it "insubordination" if you don't allow them to search your car.

Luckily, there is also a state law that states that you cannot be fired for a political opinion, and backs it up with a criminal charge if a company fires someone for disagreeing with a political issue, such as gun rights. My stance at work is that they can look in my car, but not open anything... glove box, console, locked boxes, etc. If a police agency has to have a warrant to look in there, so do my employers... and they have to be accusing me of a crime to get one... not skirting the law by making it "insubordination".

You have to understand your company in a lot of cases, and know where the "policies" come from. Our company is owned by a bunch of liberals that absolutely abhor gun rights and campaign against them... so you have to use the laws to your advantage whenever possible. I can't carry my gun "at work", but they're in a world of hurt if they try to search my car without a warrant, and their lawyers have told them that there's nothing they can do about it.

You will never be able to prove they searched your car for political reasons. They can simply say office supplys were stolen and some one saw you do it. Like it or not, that is how the world works.

I live in Florida and have a CCW and don't work at Disney.
I don't leave my gun in the car while working because I don't want to leave it
unattended. I only bring guns to places I can carry it on my. I would feel
guilty if someone stole a gun out of my car and used it in a crime.
Just my take.

John!

Every business owner in Florida who doesn't agree with this needs to move to another state. It's bad law.

I sat on the fence on this law for the longest time. But I now agree that civil rights are superior to business rights. A business can't tell a person what to say or that they can't vote or what church to attend. Why should they be able to control my second amendment rights when they can't control the rest?

How would they find out in the first place? If you open your mouth and brag about it, then that makes you stupid. I can't carry yet, but if my employer wanted to search my car, guns or not, for anything, I would say goodbye. A job is not worth surrendering my constitutional rights for. Jobs may be hard to find, but I will die for my constitutional rights.
