Wow--it looks like we have a new foe and his name is Florin Krasniqi. CBS just did a 60 minutes piece focusing on his claims that he purchased hundreds of big fifties and other firearms for what he claims was legal export to the KLA (it wasn't--it was straw man all the way). The antis have jumped on him like ... well I won't say it here. My alarms sometimes go off. Last time they did it was over little news releases about Michael Moore's film on Columbine. They're going off again. WATCH THIS MAN, AND WATCH HIM CLOSE. Google him. Search for dirt on him. I know he's a BS factory, and it's clear he's trying to sell some books and capitalize on his position.

If you read the two "learn more" interviews to the right of the main story they don't call for any interior controls in the US and the lady even talks about how these weapons are straw purchased.

This will be spun but the supporting stuff isn't overtly hostile. They are talking about export controls and such, mostly.

I've found some indication that Krasniqi donated to the Kerry campaign:

And plenty of indications that the KLA weren't the pure hearted "freedom fighters" the Klintonites claimed. Anyone know some folks over in Serbia who might know about this character? He strikes me as 90% BS, and a google of his name reveals he's been remarkably happy to have his name in the papers for an alleged gun runner. Even in 1999 there are articles citing him as the best known KLA advocate in the US.

And now he's fighting for the antis, the same Democratic jackboots who scratched his back during the Kosovo situation. I predict here and now the usual suspects in DC will be demanding to have Krasniqi appear before Congress to give "expert testimony" on the big fifty.

The Brooklyn Connection, which won an award at the Tribeca Film Festival, already has had an effect. "The Homeland Security started a big investigation," Quirijns says.

She says Krasniqi's wife is afraid, but he isn't. He hopes it will bring attention to his cause.

The filmmaker also has an agenda. The most illuminating fact to come from the documentary, she says, is that "the easy access of weapons can help terrorists. I hope that people realize what the gun laws mean in the United States."

But the argument is the "problem" of criminal export was supposedly made possible by how easy it is to obtain and ship these child killing firearms in the US. Make no mistake, it's not tinfoil hat time. There is absolutely a movement out there determined to disarm us. They hate the idea that we are allowed to have firearms. I've met them in person and argued with them on line endlessly. Our mere existence bothers them, even if we do nothing to them. This is why so many Europeans are pushing to take away our right to keep and bear arms. Whether it's Quirijns, Michael Moore or Kari Skogland, they stand against us and will do whatever they can with their cameras to destroy us. They've taken some hits, but they won't stop.

As far as Krasniqi, I want to know why the FBI hasn't hauled him in for being the biggest straw man in history. The federal prisons have plenty of guys doing many years for buying four or five .38's or 9mm's for their home boys. This guy supposedly bought an arsenal for an armed foreign insurgency. If gun sellers sold him firearms knowing he was going to turn around and sell them to some Albanian insurgency, they also need to go to prison.

Of course, my guess is an investigation will reveal this is 90% BS churned up for political reasons. But having Mr. Krasniqi under the hot lamps in a criminal probe might get him to reconsider whether or not to recant.
