Flush It!

This is a method I have used for years to clean my rifles. Just take a old
nipple and drill out the flash hole. Do not ever use this again to fire the rifle.
Get a piece of plastic tubing and push it over the nipple so the fit is tight.
When cleaning, take out your nipple and screw the cleaning nipple in. Place
the other end of plastic tubing in a pan or bottle of your favorite cleaning
soulition " I use Blue windshield washer" and wet a patch and push it down the barrel. Pull it up about 1/2 way drawing the soulition up into the barrel.
Push down hard and contiue to push and pull for a few minuites. This will
really flush the bottom of the barrel out. Discard used solution.

Now that is easy cleaning.

So do you NOT remove the barrel from the stock?

I'm sure he does. If he doesn't, he'll have to coat the stock both inside and out with beeswax to keep it from being affected by the water. I know some Williamsburg gunsmiths who do that. One of them once put their gun, stock and all, in the creek to let the creek rinse out the barrel. The screw holes, lock mortise, patch box interior, spots beneath the thimbles/pipes, pin holes, area beneath the tang and barrel channel as well as ram rod hole must all be beeswaxed to do this.

No, Never Never! Not even on my hooked breach Hawken. This is just
eaiser and I'm not going to take a chance of my point-of-impact changing.
I shoot my rifles in compention and it took a lot to sight them in. Not going
to risk that.

Thanks kwhi, I will definitely be trying that. In fact i might make it a point to get the rifle out tomorrow after work and shoot it just so i can clean it. ER...well you know.
