If you haven't already you will forget and load your smoke pole without powder.
Trying to pull a ball out is a real PIA! This might help you. Just take the nipple
out and squirt some powder in and wet the threads with spit and screw the
nipple back in and cap and point towards the ground and shoot it out. I use
Swiss Null B in the bottle , but you can use 4F. The bottle is one of the small
Elmer's Glue bottles. You can open it with just a twist with one hand. Very
handy. Before any questions, why yes I am a banjo picker.

Yep, that looks like it will work well. I use something similar but a smaller bottle. It works for older shooters too :p I almost want to put a bolt/plug on the end of the barrel on my rifle. I can do it but I would have to weld the tang back in place.

Tresco is now making a nipple charger using 4F for priming the nipple without removing the nipple, should work well using Null B also.

Anyone tried one?

:what: GADZOOKS :what:

That's a pretty handy idea.

Does the plastic in the bottle when cleaned cause the powder to cling to the sides in any way that's a problem? I could see somebody just starting out using a larger, cleaned out, glue bottle with a wider spout, to carry the main powder. Nice and waterproof, and inexpensive.

I love the traditional guns and rifles, and I go into the woods in 18th century style garb and gear, right down to the footwear, BUT..., I'm all in favor of getting a person started with inexpensive, dependable gear, and then if they wish they can persue the historical options if the idea suits them.

That looks like a nice DIY project for a newbie.

Some picture huh ? One of these days I'll get a new camera that doesn't have a mind of it's own :p If I press a button on it that says to put the flash on it does the opposite  Sometimes it takes good one too but it's time to up grade. :)

Why in the world are you putting spit on the threads? They should already have some kind of anti seize lube on them...

Anyway, yes, pulling the nipple and putting powder down does work wonders. I use a small flask/spout that I would normally use to change a flintlock pan. I do also have a CO2 unit and they also work great. Typically I'd use the nipple method at the range and the CO2 method at home. Do be careful to point it in a safe direction - things will fly out with a lot of force.

why yes, now that you mention it, I did have to pop out a ball from an uncharged cylinder once. Was a PITA to get the bit of powder in behind the ball without some gizmo or t'other. Now you've come up with a real simple gizmo. I like it and I will use it. Thanks!
