Flying after gun purchase

The last time I flew on a commercial flight, I was "randomly selected" to be searched. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that I had purchased a firearm just a few days before flying. Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Just a coincidence?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was not a mere coincidence, though I'm not sure that the airport computer databases are that advanced....yet....
