So I'm at the range today....

I shot the firearms I brought and had an enjoyable outing.

Saw alot of weapons and talked with some other shooting enthusiasts.

I'm about finished and the guy next to me brings out a FiveSeven. He proceeds to smash a host of clay pigeons he had set out. (Lots of folks shoot clay pigeons instead of paper targets at this range for some reason?)
Seeing my envious glances, he offers to let me shoot it and I jumped at the chance.

I offered to let him shoot my Colt Python.

The FiveSeven is light, has a funky look, but feels good in my hands.

Shoots great with very little recoil. And was very accurate.

I asked if he paid 1000 or so and he said no, 800.

How much is ammo I ask?

$20 a box. This was blue plastic tipped hollow points. 5.7 X 28mm.

I have to say, after shooting it, I am more than intrigued. With any new caliber though, unless you are going to reload, you have to wonder if the company is gonna pull the plug and you'll have a fine weapon with no way to get ammo.

The Five Seven shoots the same ammo as the PS90 and Impact guns has a combination package where you get the PS90 and the FiveSeven for about $2600.

I hope I don't see this guy at the range anymore. If I shoot that FiveSeven anymore, I may end up buying one.

my understanding is that FN sabotages the magazines in the PS90 so they can only hold 30

you can get the handgun for around 800... the ps90 is usually about 1300... so 2600 is high...

the ammo is actually easy to reload, the bullet is a standard .223 in a lighter grain than is standard for an AR.,.. empty brass is pretty easy to find, and there is at least one person selling reloads online for it...

Yup, it's pretty much that easy, you do need a new shorter insert or to modify the one you take out to make it shorter, and any spare mags you buy will be 50's as they are readily available although not cheap, $55 or so... I own both and they are great guns. One of the good things about an odd caliber like that while ammunition like .308 has quadrupled in price I can still get 50 rounds of 5.7 for 20$ which used to seem expensive but now seems like a bit of a deal compared to other things. plus 20 rounds in a pistol without an absurdly long mag sticking out the bottom and 30 rounds with the absurdly long extension sticking out... good times

U can actually buy 5.7 ammo online for $17 or so per box. Unless I'm buying just 1 box at a time locally, I order my ammo online. I have a Five Seven that I got for $779 back in Aug. I have 6 mags, 1 of which is a 30 round mag. I have it as my nightstand gun. With the 197 ammo (the blue tip ammo), it will penetrate less interior walls than a 9mm or other pistol caliber will (one of the points of the 5.7 ammo is that it fragments on hard targets).

I've had my PS90 carbine for over a year now. I love it. 50 round mags. And, for $4 or so, you can convert the 30 rounder that comes with the gun to a 50 round mag. Takes 1-2 minutes to do.

On the FN Forum website ( www.fnforum.net ) someone just recently posted some ballistic tests using their Five Seven handgun and a "Bullet Tube" - the results were pretty good.

On all the gun forums, U will get the naysayers who claims its just a 22 - but, it's not. And, most people are just repeating what they've heard others say, and they don't even own one. Most of the time I ignore these people because they just drone on and on, but sometimes I'll jump into these threads.

I'll stick with my <$200 CZ52 and cheap surplus tokarev ammo for my AP needs, thank you. The price is ridiculous for something that seems so lacking in put-down power. I'm not knocking FN, I have a police shotgun from them, but I'll wait until the 5.7 gets to $400. So, that'll be never.

ive been watching the 5.7 since i first heard of it.

the sucesses were a japanese terr and a houston bg who were dropped quickly by it.

have'nt heard of any failures to stop but its still new.too bad we cant test it on a few death rowers.

I sell my brass for 10 cents each usually. For every 3 boxes I shoot, I get almost enough $ to buy 1 box.

In one of the many Gun mags I read, David Fortier reviewed the PS90 and he loved it. And I do remember him writing that it was relatively easy to convert the 30 rounders to 50 rounders.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a PS90, but if I have to fork over that much I'd rather have a 308 AR. (I think? )

both the handgun and the carbine are sexy. i have shot the handgun and not the carbine. things i liked about the fn fiveseven is the placemet of the saefty right above the trigger finger which is ambi which is nice. they are light weight, no recoil to speak of, and the trigger is nice. i liked the sights but they were just a little tall. it is neat that they are adjustable but i have a love hate relationshi with adjustable sights. i think they have no place on a duty, carry or gun that might get knocked around. but for a range gun they are g2g inn my book. i shot i about 100rds and though i didn't shoot it as good as i woul have liked, i think with some more trigge time i would improve. my buddy whos gun it was shot really well with it, and he was really accurate with it. not the fact that the guns are so expensive that keeps me from getting one but the price of ammo. i like o shoot and shoot alot and the price of 5.7 ammo isn't condusive to my habits.
