FN FNP .40....or Glock 22?

I have a FNP9 USG model. I have slide peening under the "P" on FNP. There are lots of reports of that happening. It is NOT from improper disassembly ..it's just something that happens with some models. Mine showed peening after it's first 50 rounds. It has been reported in both the 9 and 40 models. I'm monitoring mine to see if it gets any worse. FN says it's not a "problem" with the gun and it won't effect function so they are well aware of the issue.

And Shipwreck, I did read about it on fnforum a while back (are you the same Shipwreck that's on there?). There are reports on the trigger housing problem too but it seems to be a small % and FN is fixing them.

I have to say that I've owned a bunch of Glocks and the FN and I'm a bit partial to the FN. It has a decent trigger for a polymer gun and mine has been 100% reliable so far with many different loads. It's accurate and pretty ergonomic. Overall I like the gun. The only downside is that peening on mine and the polymer is a lot softer than Glock or XD. I actually have holster wear on my polymer from a leather holster (it smoothed out some of the textured polymer). So those 2 things sort of tick me off but I still like the gun. The jury is still out for me though. I'll have to see how it goes. I don't rave about things at the drop of a hat....I'm a pretty picky guy.

I should add one more thing I don't care for. The USG model has a decocker which is also a safety. I think that's a great idea since you can carry it cocked and locked. I am a fan of the 1911 and I like the idea of cocked and locked. My issue with the USG model is that when it's cocked and locked and you go to deactivate the safety, it's super easy to go that extra tiny fraction of an inch and end up decocking it. Under stress it would be pretty safe to say at least sometimes you're gonna end up with a decocked gun. At least it will still go bang though but you might not be expecting that trigger pull.

You could call this a training issue and it might be. I still think it's pretty easy to go that little bit of extra distance. Yeah, I've practiced a bunch with it but I still see it happening. I'm just going to forget about cocked and locked with it. Not a huge deal I guess.

Oh! and one more thing....at least 1 or 2 rounds out of a mag will fly back at my head. The ejection is flawless but it doesn't eject most loads too far and sometimes they come a bit towards me or over my head. If it's me or my grip, I can't tell the difference. Definitely not limp-wristing it or anything. I'm usually shooting 125 grain RNL reloads that are pretty light but it does it with +P SD ammo and other stuff too. Usually ejects shells only a couple of feet. Things might change when I get more rounds through it. We'll see.

Ok, I'm done now.

on the FN forums I have seen some complaints about loose backstraps and even a report of a broken safety/decocker on the FNX...although even those people seem to still love it.

I would really prefer the decocker+manual safety of the FNX (I don't care for the color of the FNP USG which has this)...but the reports of growing pains in the FNX make me wary.

Of course I am also looking at the SIG P229, which only has a decocker and no manual safety, so it certainly isn't a deal breaker for the FNP. If only I could win the lottery, I would be buying an FNP, SIG P229, Glock 22, HK USP. Springfield XD and a S&W M&P.
