I just picked up from my FFL the CDNN marketed FN HiPower P35 S/A in Matte Finish with a 10rd and 15rd mags. Price was quoted as $449.00, still a great deal. The gun is a fantastic dark matte with black plastic grip panels. The gun is very tight and will need to be loosened up in the best way possibel. The trigger is tight also, with a heavy SA pull that breaks very crisply. I would say the pull is in the 6+ pound range. It is short and strong. I like a heavier SA pull anyway. Gun came in a nice FN case, cleaning kit, great manual, 1 fired case and lock (ugh) a 10rd MecGar mag and a 15rd KRD mag.

Is anyone familiar with KRD? I am not.

I got two more Argentinian blue 15rd mags that in were good condition and prob just need a cleaning. The salesman threw in a FREE Mereco 4" knife with the order.

I just love the way a HP feels. The safety is ambi, and on the smaller side, but engages nicely. The sights are good sized with white lines. The slide release is perfectly sized for action with my trigger finger (I am a lefty). I am going to switch the mag release to the right side as HPs are the only double stack my thumb can actually reach right side release without shifting my grip.

I may have to get the hammer bobbed as it seems a little longer then my last HP. It could be my hands are getting fatter (most likely) but I will blame the design right now to compensate.

I cant wait to shoot it and give a range report. I am so happy to have actually gone through every 9mm I could find over the last few years, always measuringt them against a HP I used to had and sold.

Well, I eventually went back ... here is the list of guns I have gone through.

CZ85
SIG 226
Glock 19
Walther P99
SW 6913
Star Firestar +
XD 40
HK USPC 45
Steyr M9
1991 A1 Colt Combat Commander

HPs are the bomb.

I got mine a couple weeks ago, and I love it, having sold one to finance a 1911 a few years ago I was very glad to have one back in my collection again.

BTW, what is the quality of that knife? I have one coming from another purchase (thrown in free) over the weekend.

Hope they don't sell out before I can get one ordered. Ummmm, they're not very good really. The matte finish is ugly and Belgium is right next to France so they smell funny. If you made the mistake of purchasing one, I'll take it off your hands for a small fee... ;)

MrAcheson ....

Funny, it did sort of smell funny ... cordite and grins funny .....

I see by your Location: you are in Delaware ... tell me about the 2a situation in De and the gun culture there

The 17 rnd KRD I bought for my FEG works great, the 15 rnd KRD that came with my CDNN FN-HP was seized, I had to work on it a lot to get it to work, it seems OK for the range now, but I wouldn't carry it into danger.

Why did you get rid of your Sig 226?

I've been thinking of getting a Sig P226ST in .357SIG as a bada$$ gun. Alot of people seem to break their Sig's pretty easily though which ain't very confidence inspiring. :(

I had 20 of the blued KRD 17 rounders. They all functioned flawlessly in two different Hi-Powers. I sold them to somebody here, can't remember who. The search function is disabled right now so I can't look.

SIG226

I like the SIG, but it was a big big gun for a 9mm. Grip was a little to large for CCW. Great, accurate reliable shooter that just did not suit me when compared to a HP.

Picked mine up from my dealer yesterday. I like the matte black. Its pretty but still functional and hopefully it won't scratch or flake. The serial number is also on the side of the frame at the top of the magazine well (as opposed to the front grip strap where it used to be). The only complaint I have is that the stock grips are nasty black plastic that look like something that came off a squirt gun. They were going to be replaces with navidrex anyway though.

navidrex ?

tell me about these grips ...

I was thinking of putting on some soft rubber panels, but if there is something else?

Navidrex is the company name. They make various ergonomic grips for the hipower similar in appearance to Craig Spegel's stuff. You can get them from brownells.

I'm partial to the thin black micarta grips although the dymondwood is nice too. Uncle Mike's hipower grips come stock on the Charles Daly Hipower, and they feel quite nice as well.

"I may have to get the hammer bobbed as it seems a little longer...."

When my old Izzy FN was at Novak's for other work had the hammer bobbed rather than going to a C&S Rowel type, etc. {Didn't like the look or the cost}
Hammer looks much nicer than OEM now and dosen't bite ever.
They do a nice looking radius under the bottom of the hammer when bobbing it.

Have Navidrex ebony grips on one HP and think they are good and a good value.

But not as good a profile as Spegel's. Ahrends are good if you don't mind the dish at the top of ea. grip but still don't have as nice a profile and "feel" of Spegels. {Do have a bias as have very large hands}

Here's the Navidrex grip panels at Brownells

And here's a picture of the Micartas on my FEG, (sorry the picture is poopy)

I've since taken them off and put them on my FN-HP. I love them, very thin but they have very sharp checkering, Some might find the checkering too sharp, and they may cause the same problems with "Printing" for concealed carry that rubber grips do, but I like them a lot. They look great also.

Axeman_g and MRAcheson, Congratulations on the new HP. I got my first one from CDNN about 2 weeks ago. Not quite as traditional, as I got the .40 cal with the SFS system. I do like the matte black finish. Have only gotten to the range with it once, but first impression definitely lived up to expectations. I've read some posts where some people have complained of quality of fit with the Navidrex grips. Any experience with that?

Otherwise, can't wait to get back to the range.

They did seem a little loose when I had them on my FEG, but that could just be that I didn't tighten them enough. Now that they are on my FN-HP, they fit perfect, but that could just be that I tightened them better. shrug.gif
