I have received very sketchy information that FN would create a semi-auto-only, extended-barrel version of the P90 for civilian consumption, and sell it in the US.

I have also heard some rumors about a semi-auto SG550. Does anyone have concrete information? As far as I know, both of these manufacturers (FN Herstal, SIG) have plants in the US already.

I called the customer service dept at Sig and they claimed they had no plans to sell the 550 to non-LEO in the US. I suspect that they'll wait and see who wins the election before they make a true decision.

If they ultimately decide not to sell them here it seems the Robinson Arms XCR just might be an even better rifle.

FN have been kicking around ideas for the civilain market for awhile. last i heard was the F2000 rifle.

I spoke to SIG rep at the last trade show, they have no plans for the SG55x to be marketed or manufactured here in the States.

The Civilian P90 rumor was in Shotgun News, but as of very recently people in FN said it is not gunna happen.

There is a guy on Sturmgewehr.com who is selling new LEO SIGs to civilians. The way he explains it is that he is changing out the imported parts with US parts and would be legal to civilians (I personally don't know if this is legal). They aren't cheap, they're about $4500 each.

I think the main problem with producing a domestically produced version of a European military style rifle is economics not politics. You can buy a reliable accurate AR in the US for around $800 I think a Sig 550 would cost twice that if produced in the US from brand new parts, and the AR would be its main competitor. I imagine there is not that much of a market for a high priced semi-auto. It would be a different story if they could make it in Europe at there existing plants and just change out the trigger group to SA only.

If I could buy a NIB 55X made in the states for 2 or even 3 times what an AR cost I would hop all over it> I would imagine that there would be quite a following if they were that cheap.
