What do you guys think of the FN SLP Mk1? I want kinda a do-it-all shotgun and am thinking this could be it.

I don't currently own a shotgun but have shot plenty, do you guys think the 22" barrel is useful for shooting clays as well as defense? Is there anything this shotgun couldn't do?

I personally think it is the coolest looking shotgun out there, but I'm trying to not let that affect my decision... too much

Any thoughts?

Just buy a shotgun that has both 20" and 28" barrels. I'm sure you can for well under the price of the SLP. It is VERY cool looking tho :D

Given that the desired choke can be screwed into the end of the barrel, what advantage, for shooting clays, does 6 more inches of barrel make?

home defense/combat shotguns and hunting shotguns are pretty far away each other.

but, yes 22" you can shoot clays, soon as they are on the air. lol

i think he's trying to say it's more suited to combat than clays...but not to worry, you can get longer barrels too.

i thought the SLP Mk1 was cool enough to buy...but i'm using the 18" SLP w/ghost ring sights for my HD shottie

The barrel length is fine.

Its the rifle sights that will hinder your clay shooting.

Personally, I can hit clays with my .410 far better than my 12 gauge, because the rifle sights on my 12 throw me off every time.

The rear sight on my SLP Mark 1 folds down and you are left with a fiber optic bead front site. I'm thinking that sounds like something useful for clays. ;)

It also does slugs pretty well too....and buckshot is a given. :D
