I'm thinking seriously about purchasing a FN SLP shotgun. Anyone have positive or negative feedback on that piece? The Benelli M4 is out of my price range but I'm looking for something equally reliable and soft-shooting.

I picked up the SLP Mark 1 the end of this past year and have had a terrific time with it over the past couple of months. I just got back from Front Sight this past week.....shot 3 points below a perfect score on the tactical shotgun course. The SLP didn't let me down. :D

Here are my comments on the FNH SLP Mark 1.

I put an EOTech SPX2 on it. Works great from 3 to 100 yards (the course of fire at FS).

If you have any specific questions, let me know....I'll do my best to answer them.

Rocking setup. How much did you pay for it?

How does it break down? Would the SLP be able to mount a flashlight on the magtube and still be broken down without detaching the light mount?

As configured, its about $1600.

How does it break down?
Very easily. With the exception of the trigger control group, which is held in the receiver via two pins, the barrel and gas system can be disassembled by removing the magazine tub cap.

Would the SLP be able to mount a flashlight on the magtube and still be broken down without detaching the light mount?

Yes....easily done when using the FNH tri-rail mount.

Short version for mounting a light....slip the mag tube shroud off and slip on the tri-rail shroud. With three rails available, you shouldn't run out of room too fast.

i couldn't decide between the SLP (18" bbl) or the SLP Mk-1...so i got one of each.

the SLP with it's ghost rings sights is perfect for HD

Put in an order for a 22" version today. Already have a TruGlo red dot and Streamlight waiting for it. Can't wait. :)

It's on my list hope to have enough saved soon. Arizona, that's a fine looking shotgun, can't wait till I have one of my own.

Leafy,
If you find yourself in the Phoenix area before you get one, give me a shout. I'll let you drag me out to the range so you can shoot it. :D

Could you tell me where is made in?
The originals were made in Belgium, but they ran into the 922a "no sporting pupose" rules.... So now they are built (assembled) in South Carolina, I'm pretty sure they're the same gun, just put together in different locations.

Picked up the 22" MK1 on Saturday. Haven't had a chance to shoot it, but during the initial cleaning, I'd have to say this shotgun is very well constructed, much better than the Mossberg 590 I traded in. The 590 felt cheap with its wiggly handguard and uneven and dull finish. The SLP is lightyears ahead.

On the accessories side. My Streamlight mag tube light mount does not fit over the sleeve. Ordered the factory tri-rail which is pricey at $120. I'm hoping it does not add too much weight. And since the Streamlight will be forward mounted, picked up a remote switch on Amazon.

Put the TruGlo red dot on the rail and realized I needed a cheekrest. Bought a Blackhawk cheek pad, same one I have on the Remington 700.

Finishing the setup with a VTAC padded sling. The SLP came with 2 swivels.

Looking forward to the weekend.

Bah... the tri-rail is out of stock everywhere.

Any suggestions for an alternative mounting method? The sleeve is a few mm fatter than the standard 12 ga mag tube.

=============

Update: got a barrel mount instead: http://www.botachtactical.com/caasgunshmo.html

Weighs less than a tri-rail, so it might be better overall.

I opted for a cheek pad after I installed the EOTech. I used a different brand but it was a perfect fit and the price was right.
