Fn spr .308

I have been wanting something like this for some time. I had three paychecks this month and I sold 40 hours of vacation. So, Christmas for me, a lightly used FN SPR .308.

I'll change the scope and replace it with this Vortex Viper HS Tactical 5-15x 44mm.

I won't be using my standard Redding .308 set. I ordered a Wilson seater. I'll be using my arbor press to seat bullets. I ordered a Forster bushing bump neck sizer. I have never tried on of them before, but I do have and really like Forster dies.

I signed up to shoot an F Class match in February. It will be a first for me. We shoot at 300 yards at our range. I need to pick up a couple of extra mags.

I looked at the SPR and ended up going with a savage 10FCP since it was in stock. I'm sure it will be a tack driver. I shoot mine at our club's 600 yd range.

I have had my SPR for about 7 years now. The 1:12 chrome lined bore is a snap to clean, though I wished it was a 1:10 or 1:11.25. The factory bedding can be improved upon. The CRF is a pain when single loading. All in all it's a decent rifle and I am sue you will njoy yours.

I looked at Savages, but in the end thought the SPR was more what I was looking for. There are plenty of folks shooting Savage rifles in F Class at our range. They are very well thought of. I shot one when the Savage reps came to the range. I put two shots through the same hole at 100 yards. The Acu-Trigger works pretty well.

I think you made a great choice. I look forward to hearing about your first F-Class match. That 2.8" 10-ring is awfully small at 300 yards ... not to mention the 1.4" X-ring. Also, you don't have to buy extra magazines for the match. You can single feed if you like ... that's what I do.

Any F Class Match I have been to, you HAD to single feed. All you have to do with the Winchester CRF if it doesn't single feed is bevel the extractor a bit. I had George at G.A. Any F Class Match I have been to, you HAD to single feed.

I don't remember anyone specifically stating this at our matches but it's in the High Power rule book.

10.1.6 Loading in Slow Fire - In all slow fire events, the rifle will be loaded with only one cartridge at a time. The cartridge shall be inserted in the magazine or chamber only when the rifle is pointed down range. Resting a loaded rifle on a shooting stool or the foot, is prohibited. (See Rule 10.1.3).

Well, single loading only is silly, but rules are rules.

I wanted a gun more versatile than just F Class, so I am glad to have a detachable mag, no more than a 24" barrel, and a repeater, vs a right bolt left port, long barreled, single shot, F Class rifle. That would be a great gun, but not as versatile.
