What's the word on these pistols? What I've seen so far looks good.
Way back I was hunting around for a full size .45auto. I had handled an FNP45 Tactical awhile ago, it was amazing but I put it down when I saw the price.
Fast forward to now, I've learned the "vanilla" FNP45 is a reasonably priced gun. As it happens one crossed my path and I was able to work out a decent trade for one locally. I'll be picking it up next week and cant wait to get some time with it.
Here is the one pic I have of my "soon to be" FNP45(I believe its a "USP" version?)

Very nice. :D I love that color combo. Congrats.

I've got an FNX-9 that I like a lot. FN makes a nice pistol.

I could not find a single person to say they ever had a problem with them.

That being said, my dark earth tactical got picked up yesterday.

Went looking for a kydex style holster today, now there is a problem, LOL. Could not find one locally. May have to buy one off the web.

I will let you know if I run into issues.

I just got one this week

I put about 100 rounds through it and shot great

I need to load up some good hollow points and see how those feed gut otherwise I am happy.

they say holsters are hard to find currently

I had one, loved it but the lady in the house has small hands so... now it's gone. I did have issues with peening on the barrel hood after 2500 rds (I shoot a little) but it never had any effect on the pistol and the factory said it's normal. The gun shot everything I fed it except some handloads ment for my Kimber that had the bullet seated with a longer C.O.L. I noticed some shooters with smaller hands had trouble with limp wrist malfunctions, the big heavy slide needs a firm grip to cycle properly but if it fits you then there shouldn't be any problems.

I like mine - ambi everything, nice capacity, low recoil. When I bought mine the gun shop owner said he had the shooters pack with his and the only thing worth having was the mag pouch.
I am looking at this brand: http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/#dd-owb. The only thing making me pause is the fact it seems to be the same holster for the 9, 40 and 45.

Great gun. Trigger is good, I love the decocker, and capacity for a .45 is unbeatable (14/15).

The only gripe I have has to do with the grip. Because of the hi cap mag, the grip is really beefy.

I have one and love it. Wonderful gun.

Only difference between the USG and non USG is that the USG has a manual safety. The other model functions only as a de-cocker, which is the one I got. I don't like safeties.

Holsters are a bit of a pain. Only person who really makes a kydex one is bladetech. I was hesitant of the holster at first, but after having in my hands, it's very thick kydex, and a good quality holster. Just maybe a bit ugly.

Samson7, add 1 to your total. Magazine +1 in chamber = 16 total. Some are sold with a 14 rounder, some are sold with 15 round magazines, depends on the model, but both sizes will work in either gun. The bigger one has a thicker base on it.

MJ ATL do you have a Raven holster? If so how do you like it?

I have been looking at the FN Shooters pack, or the Blade Tech--same thing, but not real sure, would like to handle one first.

@Acera, I have 2 Raven Concealment hosters. 1 for the FNP-45 and 1 for a Sig P229R. I like the one for the FNP-45, fits well, holds the gun great. My father has the BladeTech/FN shooters pack for an FNP-9 and I wasn't impressed with it at all. Seems to hold the gun too far off body for good concealment (not that concealment with the FNP-45 is an issue - its just not happening :neener:).

I'm lukewarm on the one for the P229 - its good for IDPA (not the fastest draw) but I prefer my Galco SkyOps, Concealable Belt, or Summer Comfort for carrying the P229.

MJ_ATL,

Travis Haley one of the two instructors in the MagPul: Art of the Dynamic Handgun series of videos uses a Raven, and seems to like it a lot.

So it's good to hear your experience is positive also. Even better to hear that the FN factory holster sticks out too far. I am going to attempt to upgrade my current (Kimber Pro Carry) carry gun to this one, if I can make it work.

I am definitely going to check Raven out some more, they look simple and well made.

Thanks,

sorry MikePaiN, not meaning to threadjack your space here.

I have a FNP 45 USG that is the most accurate, soft shooting .45 I have ever fired.......and that includes high dollar 1911s, Glocks, M&Ps, etc.

It's odd just how accurate my FNP 45 is........and with hardly any recoil.

One thing though - the mags made for the FNP 45 are flawed, unless they are new (2010 and beyond). They had a problem with the weld seam in the older mags, causing FTF. Call FN's service center in Arnold, MO and they will swap 'em out with new ones.......and the "WWB feeding probelms" will go away.

IMHO, there isn't a better .45 ACP "fighting pistol" out there.

YMMV

couple of issues with mine, bought new in Nov 2010...

the 'loaded chamber indicator' did not indicate. it was the 'old' style that was replaced by a different style that does work. Took 2 calls to get the right extractor/indicator. FNH wanted me to send the gun back for a 4 week turnaround. No thanks. takes like 2 min to change out. The new indicator does indicate.

2nd. the slide would release if a mag was really slammed home. did not like that. My Sig 220 never did that. I found that the slide catch notch on the left side was a little 'smooth' for lack of a better word. I roughed it up with a small jeweler's file, or maybe some emery cloth, just enough to add some friction and Voila! it will not drop the slide no matter how hard I pound on it. it will drop fine though if I thumb the catch (even though FNH says its not a slide release, as it is very small, and some guys complain about that. I have no prblem dropping the slide)

3. the recoil spring is very heavy which results in lighter loads just dribbling out. sometimes coming straight back or straight up. Sometimes just poping out and sitting on the web of my shooting hand. Nice little distraction. I am told the spring will break in after a few hundred rounds. the gun is meant for full power loads and they mean it.

I do like the large cap mags, and the ambi controls. Nice sights too.

My P220 is still a solid rock of a gun though. could use it as a club if I run dry. Not so the FNP. Or maybe once :)

Considering the price difference though, and getting 3 mags and a holster, I can put up with a few minor defects.

I am in the process of working up some handloads for mine. Hope to find the sweet spot soon!

Sorry to be a bit of a wet blanket here, but I've had some problems with my FNP as of late. (FNP 40, NOT FNP 45) I was shooting in 110 degree weather this past Friday (yes, it actually does get that hot in Iowa), and the DA trigger pulled all the way back to the frame and would not fire. I have heard of other FNPs and FNXs having this issue. I don't know if this is an issue with the .45 model, but I just wanted to give you a heads up on my experience with the FNP. Other than that incident, I've been very pleased with my FN, but needless to say, I don't feel as though I can trust a gun that won't go "Boom" 100% of the time.
