I think all the 40 cal police turn-ins have depressed the market for .40 caliber handguns in general. Maybe gun makers and distributors have more 40 inventory than they anticipated.

Maybe so; I just got a new .40 P30 for $600. If .40 deals keep popping up it won't be my last.

Stchman, I'm reporting you to gun-aholics anonymous! :D I bought an FNS-9 for like $496 awhile back, so this price on a .40 seems too good to resist. I will though. I'm broke. :D

That is an amazing deal. I got the $320 with night sights and 3 mags deal not long ago, but it was very short lived. The $320 with three mags is still a fantastic deal on a very nice pistol.

9mm is just so damn popular right now (for good reason) that it's actually a good time to buy into (or expand your) .40...both the guns and ammo are extremely well priced and available.

Edit: lol it just went out of stock between when I made this post and this edit

But that's okay they still have the $360 with three mags and night sights in stock

I bought the FNS 40 with night sights a couple of weeks ago and it is a great shooter.

I would have preferred to have the one without night sights and save the $40, but it is what it is.

With .40S&W guns dropping like they are, my choice to get a .40 gun was made easy by such a cheap price.

FNH recently lowered the price on most models in the FNS-X line. It may be a marketing move to get a good gun into the marketplace. FNH is about as "unknown" in the US as the CZ line was about 10-12 years ago. They need to do something to fix that if they're serious about staying in the US civilian market.

I picked up both an FNS-40 and an FNS-40 L (long slide) some months ago, at the trade equivalent of a good bit more than the current lower price, and I still think I did well, and that they're great guns. I've also picked up a 9mm conversion barrel for the FNS-40 (from EFK Fire Dragon) and several 9mm mags. So now, in effect, I have a FNS-9 and an FNS-40.

(The 9mm mags aren't needed if you're shooting hardball in the FNS-40 with 9mm barrel, but with some hollow points the shorter cut-away tip of SD ammo tends to catch on the feed ramp if using the .40 mags.)

From what little experience I have (FNS9c and FNS40, both acquired this year), they are very good guns, just under-exposed.

Part of the problem, IMO, is the overly expensive magazines and limited aftermarket, such as night sights. All of that 'other stuff' is what the big guys like Glock, Sig, S&W, Ruger have going for them, and it makes it hard for a new entry to really get going.

I asked you this before I think, but hadn't ordered the FNS40 yet at the time...link/tell me about that barrel 'for serious'. I even have a 17 round 9mm mag that came with the FNS9c, I could grab another and us with the conversion barrel in the FNS40 and as for range/spare/winter carry in the 9c haha

The mags are a little pricey, but if you shop around you can sometimes find SOME of them at a reasonable price. (CDNN has them, but theirs aren't cheap -- and you have their flat rate shipping charges, too.) (I think I paid $35 each, shipped for the extra ones I've picked up in both .40 and 9mm. I've paid more than THAT for a number of different factory mags from SIG or CZ, before shipping is added.) I think the FNS9c are just starting to be available from vendors, but may be available from FNH. Hopefully, Mec-Gar will offer mags for the FNS and FNX, one of these days.

Magazines: Try the High Plains Gun Shop -- but you'll probably have to really flip through a lot of screens to find what you're looking for:

Conversion Barrel: Here's the link to EFK Fire Dragon: http://www.efkfiredragon.com/fnp-and-five-seven.html

Like most barrel makers, if they don't have what you need in stock, you'll have to ask to be put on their waiting list and ask them to notify you when they have a batch available. I waited a couple of months, got an email saying they were available, and called them -- and had the mag about 3 days later.

I haven't found any other firm selling conversion barrels.

I can't even figure out how to interpret that page.

How can you advertise a conversion barrel and only list one caliber/cartridge...and not the original and then what the barrel converts the gun to?

I bought one of these, black with night sights, when the sale first hit about 3 weeks ago, very pleased with this pistol. I've put about 200 rounds through it so far and its a shooter.

It was $400 out the door in my case, awesome pistol for that money.

You apparently didn't read the fine print and are unfamiliar with conversion barrels! :)

The FNS and FNX use the same barrel and some (but not all) magazines for those two models might be interchangeable. (They basically seem like the same gun -- one striker-fired and the other hamer-fired. That's a profound difference, but in the hand they feel the same.)

I don't know of any barrel maker that offers a 9mm > .40 conversion. That's because the barrel diameter of a .40 barrel is greater than diameter of the 9mm barrel, which means the .40 barrel won't fit the opening in a 9mm slide in most guns. A 9mm to 40 barrel swap might be possible with some older Tanfoglio or Witness guns, as the 9mm and .40 barrel were the same diameter in the small-frame models. There may be others that do the same, but I don't know of any.

The EFK Fire Dragon page (next to bottom barrel shown), with my underlining added below, tells you:
For FN FNS, FNX 9MM Conversion

This model is on a Pre-Payed back order, if you check out our system will charge your card today and ship in 90 days. This barrel will convert your 40 S&W to 9MM. This barrel is for the FNX and FNS Models only.
Seems like that's all you need to know, for your FNS-40. (I didn't have to pre-pay for mine; that's a new wrinkle.)
