FOBUS scratched up my new Walther P99 Compact!!!

Oh man I’m whizzed!!!

Took my P99c out last night to oil it up and right there on the slide just above the frame, forward the trigger guard is a long scraggly scratch. I looked inside the holster and where the scratched area of the gun would sit while holstered is some very rough plastic, sharp edged area.

I’ve tried to work the scratch out to no avail, guess I’ll have to break out my bluing kit and do some surgical bluing.

The Fobus is now in the trash where it belongs.

Damn cheap holsters, I should of known, buy crap get crap.

I’ll be ordering a DeSantis from the S&W store, which fits the P99c.

This makes NO sense.

You are saying that a sliver of plastic that was sticking up inside the holster scratched the METAL portion of your P99?

The regular P99 slide is coated with the equivalent of what Glock calls "tennifer". It's VERY VERY hard. (I found the finish on my P99 to be better than that on my Glocks for durability, actually).

The plastic of a Fobus holster is SOFTER than that used on many of the "kydex" type holsters. I find it almost impossible to see how the Fobus plastic could damage tennifer.

Now if the Fobus had a FOREIGN OBJECT (rocks, grit, sand, etc.) embedded in it, that's different.

I have a Makarov which is molykoted that I have carried in a Fobus for FOUR YEARS. Other than a bit of shine to the molykote in few places, the finish is still excellent where it contacts the Fobus. (And molykote is MUCH softer than tennifer.)

I think maybe your "scratch" is Fobus plastic EMBEDDED in the tennifer surface of the P99.

didnt like fobus either

my father is a police officer and a a fobus padle holster for his mini glock and i found it sometimes challenging to draw the weapon..... maybe it was just me but i wouldn't put my life at that holster

p.s you should have put it on ebay not the trash

It won't get scratched if you leave it in the gun safe.

Don't all holsters cause wear on the slide over time? I guess I don't see the problem. Are you talking a down to bare metal scratch or a finish scuff?

Most of my handguns have significant holster wear. I like to shoot them - alot.

Also Fobus is crap and so is Uncle Mikes.

As AZ Jeff said it's just not possible for something as soft as plastic to scratch something as hard as your gun. It's the same reason glass can't cut diamond.

Trophy? Jewerly? Tool?

All of my guns are tools and all look like well used tools. Clean, all operate well, and are in good condition. All have marks, scratchs, missing blueing, etc.

We all get to make our own choices. :)

My Fobus will leave rub marks on my CZ...but a dab of CLP will take them off. But I agree, they're not the best of holsters.

not sure what you expected for $20....

but if you want something that's easy on and off, the paddle holsters aren't that bad (assuming you don't mind a little wear and tear on the finish).

tell you what - you can send me the gun and the holster and i'll take care of them for you. wouldn't mind a scratched gun for x-mas!

I use an Uncle Mikes plasic holster all the time. While it was a little stiff to begin with it has loosened up considerable after I melted the crap out of it. It is a great holster that has just the right amount of retention. If you don't want the P99 holster send it to me that gun is on my buy list!!

Same prob.

I picked up a used Fobus for my Kimber Ultra CDP. I think I found the reason it was rid of by the previous owner. It scuffed/polished the slide which is bead blasted? I was/am very disappointed because the finish on the slide was still nice after a few years of virtually every day carry in an Uncle Mike's neoprene holster. Guess that is the way it goes. Can't stay flawless forever :(
