Right now, I carry a S&W I got off ebay a while back for a few bucks. It's not a POS, but I'd like something of better quality & sharper. It must have a belt clip on it like my S&W as I keep it in my side pants pocket via this clip.

What do you suggest?

Spyderco Endura 4, it's $50.60 w/ free super saver shipping. VG10 steel, lock back w/ dent for safety, liners, beatiful. This is the best you can get in that price range IMO. You'll read great reviews here and elsewhere about it. I'm solid with mine.

It's worth every dollar, and they must have lowered the price I just got mine 3 months ago for 5 bucks more. Get it.

Either of those Spydies will work, but if you have big hands go with the Endura. I got a Native once and gave it away as it was too small for my hands.

It might be helpful if you tell us what you use a knife for every day if you want something more atuned to your needs.

Any Spyderco in the price range, any Kershaw in the price range, any Byrd knife, KaBar Dozier, Ontario RAT-1.

i have a nice SOG i usually carry. it's a Flash II. really light but stays relatively sharp and has realy nice serrations for cutting rope and such

Ditto!!....do check out the Rat-1....whole lotta knife for $25;)

No doubt you'll get a lot of opinions here. Far and away, the most utilitarian and practical knife I own is the SOG Blink, a.k.a., the "money clip" knife. Here's why, in no particular order: It deploys like lightening with a thumb stud. The blade play is easily adjustable with a torx driver. It's flat, and hence very convenient for pocket carry. And yes, when I happen to have a few bucks in my pocket, I use it as a money clip. It holds an edge. It's very sturdy. It costs about 30 bucks, so if I lose it, I'll not beat myself up over it for more than a few days. If you want sexy, it has optional finishes.

The Blink has but one drawback: it does not do well in the sand and dirt. There are one or two detents and tiny steel balls inside, so I frequently clean my knife with dental floss or compressed air.

Best of all, this knife is equally at home in the pocket of my work pants when I'm on the job, or in the pocket of my slacks when I'm out for a night on the town. I've used mine anywhere from opening Christmas presents to gutting out a whitetail.

Many choices my friend, I like spyderco, Kershaw and Crkt.

Want to spend a couple hours in sharp, pointy thing heaven ?

Go to bladehq.com and peruse the thousands of knives. You can even search by price!

I just bought my son a Kershaw Skyline for his birthday. I have got to tell you, that is one exceptional folding knife for the money. I was very impressed and I would highly recommend it. I have my eyes on the Kershaw Packrat as soon as funds permit

I would like to recommend the Kershaw skyline I feel it is a very simplistic and straight forward knife from a no nonsense/B.S. company with excellent customer service.

Buck Vantage

I am pleased to see that my brethren have patiently waited for me to bring up the Buck Vantage line.

Recommend in particular the Vantage Avid (large). Good steel, good edge, easy one-handed opening (thumb hole and/or flipper), handle material won't tear up your pants.

Thanks for that info, Arf. I might check that out, myself.

As happy as I am with the Kershaw Blur, that is my only 'slight' concern is the rough handle.

Great for grip, but a 'little' rough on the pocket lip.

Sog twitch 2/ 40 bux
The Sogzilla/ 40 bux
Kershaw black out/ I paid 50 for mine but just seen it on clearance at walmart for 30
kershaw leak
Gerber Paraframe
Another good choice would be the Byrd knife "made by spyderco" Very sharp out of the box and holds an edge nice. It can be had under 40

My carry is a Byrd/Spyderco Cara Cara 2 plain blade I picked up off ebay for $29 and free shipping. This knife is very sharp and fills my XL hand. It's got a 4" blade. It's a solid knife.
