Difficult to answer.

Over time -- 16" carbines, exclusively. Had and sold two or three over time I think.
Presently - 20" A1 rifle.

Eventually (like sometime in the next 20 years) I wanted to put together an "arms of the US" display. I figured I'd have plenty of time for the wood-stocked pieces, but figuring worst case got lowers and some miscelleneous pieces parts for the following:

20" A1 rifle (finished)
SBRd XM177E2 carbine
20" A2 rifle
SBRd or pinned M4 carbine

and one for actually using, which will likely be a 16" midlength.

Uppers and such come later.

I've had a 16" A2 Bushmaster Patrolman's carbine for several years; utterly reliable. Next up on the wish list: a 24" fluted Bushmaster Varminter.

2-17", 1-18", 1-16" and 1-20"
and some more unloved lowers that need something. :p

I like the lighter weight of the shorter barrels but the 17" and 18" have better velocity numbers and a rifle length gas system. Seems like a better match than the 16 or the 20 (and yeah, you have to go custom)
but it's worth it.

the problem with 16" midlengths is that you can't shoot cmp/nra highpower with them

2 of each. A lightweight CAR-15, M-4gery, a 20" A2 and a 20" pre-M-16 with the green stocks, 1:14" twist barrel and all the other 601 early features other than the lower receiver and "go fast parts".

I voted other but...

Both my AR's have a shorter than 16" barrel. Bushmaster with 14.5" barrel and welded AK brake, and a 10.5" barreled AR pistol. I like my AR's as short-intermediate range boomers. Past 200 yards, it's time to bring out the big guns(read as: bigger cartridges):D . I would like an 18" or 20" AR, but it is down the list somewhere after getting a semi-auto .308 rifle, then SBRing my Busmaster, and purchasing a suppressor for the AR's:evil: !

Still 2 Many Choices!?

I voted one of each.

I have one 20"

I have one 14.5 + permanant flash hider.

I will have one 16" Midlength as soon as the upper arrives at the house (please hurry, please hurry, please hurry).
