DALEY FORCES LAUNCH RENEWED ATTACK ON YOUR GUN RIGHTS

Late last week, Daley sympathizers in the Illinois House passed HB180
out of the Rules Committee and on to the floor of the House. A vote on
HB 180 is expected as early as this coming Tuesday.

Should you be worried about HB 180? ABSOLUTELY!

would include the following:

1. Require all Illinois gun shops to secure a license to operate issued
by the Illinois State Police. Under this bill, the State Police "may"
issue a license to a gun shop and would establish all rules and
regulations required to keep the license. You know what that means --
either nobody would be granted a license, or those who did get licenses
would be so burdened by regulations that they could not make a profit.
BOTTOM LINE: HB 180 would shut down all gun shops in Illinois.

2. HB 180 requires that all your gun purchases be registered with the
state police.
BOTTOM LINE: HB 180 is a licensing/registration scheme designed to keep
track of how many guns you own so they may be easily confiscated at a
later date.

3. HB 180 allows any police officer in the state go to any gun shop in
the state to conduct so-called record reviews.
BOTTOM LINE: The Chicago CAGE Unit could, and would, inspect gun shops
across the state doing these record reviews. Shop owners, no matter
where they are located, would be forced to cooperate with the CAGE unit
or lose their licenses. The true purpose of these visits is to cost gun
shops time and money and ultimately cause them to go out of business.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SAVE YOUR GUNS:

1. Starting Monday morning, call your State Representative and politely
tell him/her that you oppose HB 180 and that you would like to see
him/her vote against the bill when it comes to the House Floor. If you
do now know who your state representative is, go to the following web

Yep, pretty ugly. Maybe this is Daley & uncle Mike's way of getting Cohen out....shut down his pawn shop...

I'll be putting a couple calls in tomorrow; try to get Mrs. Geneseo to do so as well.
 
Called today, I know Bill Black's on our side, it'll be interesting to see what Frerichs does.
Our NRA man didn't sound terribly concerned (on IllinoisCarry); we've killed this one before.
Definitely want to bump this thread though, in case any Illinoisans aren't on ISRA's mailing list.
 
IL Residents: Proposed Handgun Legislation

I wanted to post this for all my fellow IL residents. Check this out... just got this from Cabela's in my e-mail. If you look at the sponsors of this bill, they are all urban Chicago-area individuals. This is meaningless legislation... an example is that one of the provisions is that a gun dealer could not have handguns in their store visible from the outside. Read it, and write your State Representative!

You guys in IL better fight for your rights. As a former IL resident, I just can't believe how gun friendly it is outside of IL.

At times, it seems like gun rights are a lost cause in IL. As long as the state is run by city hall, it probably is a lost cause.

Dear Representative Bassi,

I am apalled that given the current problems confronting Illinois, and especially in view of the SCOTUS ruling on DC vs. Heller (and the likely result of McDonald vs. City of Chicago) that HB 180 seeking to add restrictions and "shall issue" state permit requirements on law abiding FFL holders has been allowed to progress as far as it has. Does the Illinois House wish in the current environment to cause further unnecessary and redundant restrictions on lawful trade and revenue? To what end? So that the viewpoints held by a powerful few centered in Chicago can be inflicted on the state as a whole in an end run around the obvious rulings of the SCOTUS?

With all respect, I do not believe I overstate my position that you have a duty to oppose this bill to it's final demise. It is my hope that you agree with the majority of your party that such unnecessary legislation detracts from the need for enforcement of reasonable criminal law, denies in effect constitutionally guaranteed rights of law abiding citizens, and most amazingly restricts lawful trade and the revenues needed to prevent further crisis and unreasonable levy on the citizens of Illinois.

I would be honored to hear your views.

As you saw, there were actually three threads on this topic, and I only noted it in the second and third. I am vitally interested in this topic, but I think it's more likely to get attention and prompt action if it's addressed cohesively. No intention to p.o. anyone . . . just trying to ensure that there's a consistent, helpful message.

By the way, I emailed my representative and got a call from her office the next day, saying that she was opposed and would vote against this measure.
 
It's been on the schedule for 3rd reading for the last couple weeks, but it has been skipped over each time the house has been in session. Apparently this is quite common. A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate, but is still in committee. Unfortunately, Madigan can and will call this bill for a vote if & when he has the votes to pass it. If you have a (D) state rep., keep leaning on them. The thinking is that Daly is scared of McDonald, and they are throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks.

If you really want to keep up on what the goons in Springfield are up to, I recommend the forum at illinoiscarry.com. They keep up on things very well, and the NRA's IL lobbyist posts there. They don't seem to be too overly concerned about it yet, which I take as a good sign. This is a zombie bill which has died before, so hopefully it will again.
 
May I propose,

an open season on the "RINOillinusian"? I would consider paying for a tag but with so many around it seems ludicris. I contemplate a November season start, one day and the preferred tool, the everpowerful educated voter with ballot box.:cuss:
 
HB5751 assault weapons ban

There is some scary language in the proposed semi-auto weapons ban.

" (a) (B) a semi-automatic rifle that has an ability to
accept a detachable magazine and has any of the
following:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip or thumbhole stock;
(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or
partially or completely encircles the barrel, and
that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with
the non-trigger hand without being burned; or
(iv) a fixed magazine that has the capacity to
accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition;"

"(2) "Assault weapon attachment" means any device
capable of being attached to a firearm that is specifically
designed for making or converting a firearm into any of the
firearms listed in paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of this
Section."

"(2) A person who knowingly manufactures, delivers,
sells, purchases, or possesses or causes to be
manufactured, delivered, sold, purchased, or possessed in
violation of this Section an assault weapon attachment
commits a Class 4 felony for a first violation and a Class
3 felony for a second or subsequent violation."

It appears that mere possession of a pistol grip could be a felony, if this passed
