For Taurus 605 and 85 owners

I have an 85SSUL, so does my best friend and his father. We carry them daily, don't shoot them very often. None of us have had any problems. I function test mine about once a week and just check to make sure the firing pin is being pushed out where it will fire. A good friend of mine has the blued 85 he has owned for about 12 years now. He owns a gas station and keeps it on his person at all times.

Another friend has a 605 that sometimes doesn't fire in DA. Since I have a C&R, I mailed it USPS for him ($9 compared to ~$60 with UPS) back to Taurus about 3 weeks ago. He should receive it back any day now. I have personally had positive experiences with Taurus customer service!

Model 85UL stainless. I bought it for a former girlfriend, who returned it when we broke up. Although I have always preferred pistols, I've grown very fond of revolvers thanks to this little gun. It's as accurate as I can be with it, and has yet to fail. Haven't had any issues with it, or any of the other Tauri I own or have owned. I consider them to be the best values on the market, but after reading about others' complaints and problems, I may be more wary in the future.

I have two Tauri. The first was a Model 85SS I managed to break the firing pin on after firing only 5 rounds. Admittedly I had dry fired it quite a bit yet I think modern materials should be able to take such abuse. Taurus was good about repairing the damage and sending it back. There were two comments on the repair sheet from the gunsmith; "Please clean your firearm regularly" and "Use only factory loaded ammunition". I thought those comments were entertaining in that I'd only fired 5 round total through the gun and those had been with factory ammo. All that being said I love the way the gun feels in my hand and I am willing to give this revolver another chance.

The second is a Tracker in .41 Magnum with a 4 inch barrel. I love the feel of the Tracker in my hand and enjoy shooting it. So far (~100 rounds) I have had no problems with this gun whatsoever.

do you like it, love it, hate it, trust it with your life etc?

My 85SSUL had a problem at about round count 300, when the cylinder release popped off during a range session. Taurus repaired it free and had it back to me in 3 weeks. Stripped threads. Since then I haven't had any problems with it. Have about 1500 rounds through it now. Nice little revolver. I wouldn't be afraid to buy another Taurus.

Hey Den,

Try putting those boot grips back on for pocket carry. They print less, and draw easier out of the pocket. Put your thumb behind the hammer spur as you draw and point your trigger finger straight down. Doesn't snag at all, and all you need to do is drop your thumb down the side to the grip after the draw. Pocket carrying the 605 has been my preferred method of carry. Make sure you still use a gun belt. You will need the support.

The boot grips are on my M85SSUL.
After hoofing the 605 around the house for a couple of hours I decided that the lighter revolver was better. The next days activities confirmed that.

Wow, Denfoote, nice holster. May I ask what brand it is and where you found it? I have scads and scads of small-frame revolvers that would like that model.

It's a no name holster I found on e-bay.

I have a Total Titanuim M85 in the rare Stealth Grey, and a shiney stainless M85. My dad has a identical shiney stainless M85, and a shiney stainless M617.

I have other Taurus handguns as well, but this is focused only on snubbies.

My verdict? All of the Taurus snubbies I have owned have been 100% perfect. No problems whatsoever!

Nice that they have Zero Tolerance policy on their ccw guns. But not on their 44mag, 41mag hanguns, that people may use as hunting sidearms, or bear protection? So only the best QC on 2 models? That doesn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy with the other models I've owned....
