The weather finally gave me a pleasant day to get out to the range with the C&B revolver.
Shot the Walker almost 100rds!
The old Walker really got a workout today. LOL
Only reason stopped when I did was ran out of felt wads!

Made me curious about how much shooting other folks do.
On average, how many rounds do you fire out of your C&B's in a normal range session?


Sure do enjoy shooting that thing.
Now the fever is on to obtain an 1860 Army!

Today, there were four people shooting my two revolvers, so I went through about a hundred rounds. And my hands are sore from loading!

Normally, I'd say that I shoot around 48 rounds in an afternoon - that's four cylinders per revolver.

100 rounds is a lot of reloading. I put about 50 through my ROA the other day with about 15 through my .31 and 10 out of my super companion. I was doing some chronographing, then started having fun with the ROA. I love that thing. It's so friggin' accurate. I finished my range session with my .22 cal Ruger Mk 2. Yeah, I know, that's cheating. So sue me.

I might go tomorrow. I would have today, but I had a lot of work in the shop to catch up with. I repaired a rear tine tiller for a guy, gotta test it by tilling my garden spot. Have to fit that in tomorrow's schedule.

Depends. My normal training run is 26 rounds. In a N-SSA skirmish, typically 45-55.

I guess it depends on how many guns I am shooting that day. I don't get to the range much with four little ones demanding alot of my time. I will bring several C&B revolvers with me and shoot about five or six cylinders from each. My .36s get more of a workout than my "Dragon Guns"(what my 7 year old affectionately calls my Walker and Dragoon) because I am cheap and I can shoot more for less!

Bring more powder!!

While goofing off down here in Texas I found a gun shop near Point Blank that has an outdoor range so I headed off the other day with my 1851 Conf. & 2nd Dragoon.

Apparently I was having fun. The reason I know this is after about two hours of shooting both I put away the Navy and just started loading the Dragoon. On the second cylinder and fourth chamber I tipped the powder flask and got a surprise. It was EMPTY!! I filled the thing before I left but apparently that Dragoon got hungry.

How many rounds average? 50 to 75, I will make sure to bring the powder can with me next time instead of relying on a full flask.

Interesting note: While I was at this range, fully 10 people came and went shooting smokeless (noisy obnoxious things they are). I asked a couple of them how many rounds they went through, typically the answer was a little more than a box.

Man that's an expensive 15 or 20 minutes!! Thankfully the smokeless shooters had a sense of humor though, because there was more than one occasion after firing the Dragoon that they had to wait for the smoke to drift past so they could see their targets.

I put 25 rounds through my Brown Bess carbine yesterday, I had fifty bullets with me but ran the powder horn empty, forgot to bring more powder. I will shoot 30-100 rounds out of just about anything, revolvers, flint muskets, cap lock rifles, whatever, I shoot on my own range, when I feel like it I shoot a lot, when time is short I shoot a little.

Today I got thirty out of my Remington for the first time. However, this was my first outing after some improvements.
First, I had to put the loading lever latch back on the barrel. I did this following advice from Hellgate and others (and also using experience installing fixed sights in dovetails) by peening the hell out of the dovetail and the latch, tapping it part way back in, generous dose of loc-tite, finish installation. From what I can tell after my outing today, that latch is IN THERE!
Second, I was having trouble with the cylinder binding tightly on the second cylinder full. I've outsmarted that by keeping the cylinder arbor well greased and just pulling the pin, then pushing it back in between cylinders. It circulates enough grease to keep things from seizing up. I pull the cylinder every other cylinder full and add more grease. Second, I took a stone to the frame where the cylinder contacts against it right at the arbor pin. It smoothed it up and maybe took just a bit of steel off, but it also keeps my gun from locking up. So what if it took a bit of Uberti's precision off? Now it works better.

As an aside, Cimarron Arm's customer service is nonexistent in my opinion. Their gunsmith never returned my calls. For all the more I know he has been deported or possibly hospitalized, cuz I ain't heard back from him.
For my next Uberti I'll be buying from someone else.

I think I shot roughly 60 rounds before I ran out of felt wads and started to gum up a bit out of my 58 remmy. When i took the rifle out last I think I only got 6 or 8 shots before it was so fouled up I couldnt load it. I got to remember to take a few brushes and maybe drop the bullet size down a touch.
