No probs, but the "dimples" in the magazine tube will need to be removed (Check archives for methods) before using an extension.
However.....
Contrary to some folks' opinions, a reliable repeating shotgun that only holds 4 or so shells in the magazine is far from useless. In trained, capable hands, one of these may handle any crisis in several lifetimes.
Not everyone handles the extra muzzle weight of an extension well.
In your shoes, I'd....
Get an 870 with a short barrel. Run 1K rounds through it within a few months. Try some skeet, wobble, informal clays, landfill rats or starlings,etc. But shoot it.
Plenty.
At that point, you'll be in a far better place to judge what it needs, if anything.
