Forgive me my S&W Brothers, for I might sin!

Big Bend of FL, originally from Miami.
Been interested in a Taurus Model 608 and a Rossi Model RP63. I have a literal pile of Smith & Wessons, all pre-locks, except for one Model 642 that was for free back in the early '00s.

The Taurus Model 608 appeals to me because I don't have a .357 Magnum with a greater capacity of six rounds. I like four inch duty size guns and a eight round .357 is intriguing. Especially since there is no ugly lock on the frame, it is instead on the hammer (which is a bummer, but better done than S&W).

The Rossi Model RP63 catches my attention because I'm a sucker for three inch round butt fixed sight .357 Magnums. Especially since the Rossi has a hammer mounted firing pin and no lock.

Forgive me brothers, I am being led to sin.

I have a bunch of S&W, Ruger, and Taurus revolvers. I bought the RP63 because I didn't have any 3" .357's. Great value for a revolver. I'm not a purist when it comes to brand. If somebody makes something I like I get it. I've got a taurus 431 and 445 in 44spl. 2" Snubby and a 3". Lately I've been addicted to my S&W 25-15. Has the hillary hole but its a great shooter.

If and when you get the 608 would you let us know how you like it and how it shoots? I have been curious about them for some time now but have never actually encountered one.

I have a S&W 327 Night Guard. A sexy beast it is, but I would like another 8 shot .357 that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to own.

608 was preceded by a 607. Same gun, only 7 shot. Thicker and stronger cylinder walls. They both were (and still are) available with the vent rib barrel which is a great sighting setup.

Cool! Hopefully you pick one (Both?!?) up and let us know what you think.

Is the 608 an N frame sized gun, or an L frame size? Can’t really tell from the pic.

Stay safe.

When you go to check out the Taurus, bring a feeler gauge set. Check the cylinder gap, every cylinder. I've seen them narrow enough to cause problems when crud on the cylinder face starts to build up.

I read in a gun rag (take that for what it is worth) that Rossi is now a higher level platform than Taurus (please don't throw things at the messenger). I can't speak to that.

I was always a DA Smith guy and SA was Rugers or Freedom Arms when I was flush with $$. That said, I just picked up the Taurus 327 I posted on here and am happy with it. The internals looked good on the 327 (better than most Rugers) and there isn't any silly lock on it. That is my 2nd Taurus (other an old 32Mag which no one else makes now).

Taurus gets a 2nd look from me now. Still kicking myself for not buying one of their Ti line when they made snubbies in 45LC and 41mag. I give them a lot of credit for making odd things (which S&W seems to copy; Judge vs Governor). And while kicking at my beloved S&W they then went and copied Kel Tec with their shotgun (which they did badly).

So, in the end, I would not feel at all bad getting a Taurus or Rossi if they made what you like.

Taurus are great revolvers for the price. You just need three. The one you're shooting. There spare in the range bag. The third back at Taurus being repaired. Rotate frequently.

Taurus always seems to port the few models I am interested in, but at least they're not Colt...

They're really the only revolver maker making new stuff. I do wish they would make a .45 Colt only with an adjustable sight, maybe one on the Tracker frame and use the dual cylinder to convert to .45 ACP.

That and a small I frame (or smaller) snub in .22 and .32.

And a 10mm Magnum on the .44 Mag frame cut for moon clips for .40 &10mm auto

I won't judge you. You should buy what you like. I own SW and Ruger revolvers. I've shot other people's Taurus and Charter guns. I have no interest in owning either.
No real knowledge on Rossi. I've always considered them 2nd rate. But that's just from reading about them.

Not a fan of Taurus, but I can see the appeal.

I can also see the appeal for that Rossi RP63... I used to own something quite similar...

A Model 60-3...

A bit different... .38SPC only, 5-shot (J-frame...) and adjustable sights... but, again, it has a certain appeal.

Variety is the spice of life... live a little! :)

I have been eyeing the RP-63 for some time now, waiting for honest reviews before I plunk down my hard earned cash...but I agree, it REALLY looks like a keeper. Not to mention, did you watch the Rossi advertisement on their home page for the new revolvers? Done like a movie trailer - leaves me wanting to see the movie!
