New to me Rossi

I was gonna go to a GS yesterday but reports of overcrowding and overpricing filtered back to me so I decided to pass. I consoled myself by going to a local Cabelas. I am not fond of Taurus or Rossi but I've had them both in the past and found Rossi is O.K.. At Cabelas I found a 4" like new full size, .38 special Taurus and a nice Rossi blue, 2", RB... Taurus $175. Rossi $149. I thought about it for quite a while and wound up with the Rossi. This is a 95% gun with kind of an odd dish shaped cyl release. The hammer and trigger are matte chrome or nickel. It is of course a pretty close copy of a S&W 36. The gun has "Firearms ITNL. Washington D.C." rolled on it. I can't find a model # on it anywhere. Any idea how old it is? I don't think I've ever seen a RB Rossi before. It is a serviceable gun that locks up tight and now wears Bantam grips I had laying around.

Your Rossi .38 Special is most likely an early model 68~!

Might be an old 760. Look on the inside of the crane for a number.

It's pre-interarms and I have a 1981 purchased M68 Interarms gun. Not real sure when Interarms took over.

YES...With 2 pairs of glasses on and using my magnifying glass and a high intensity light I can make out a 76 in the crane. Also "property of J.E. Hoover" is written in red nail polish under the grip. Ala Dan..what does that purple eyeball guy mean? Is he displeased with me.

It's the "scrutiny" thing, as if "Are you sure?" or maybe "It's a POS" which I've come to expect when I mention my Rossis or Tauri. I've learned to live with it, myself. I don't buy guns for other people's approval. I know they all think my revolvers are junk, even after I clean their Smith and Wesson clocks at a shoot. I kinda like being the odd guy out. I was the only guy who ever showed up at an IDPA shoot with a Ruger P gun. LOL! I do rather well with those, too, hold my own anyway.

Neither Taurus nor Rossi produced "junk", but their quality control has always been spotty. When you got a good one, it was fine, but when you got a bad one...
