Fort Knox v. Liberty Gun safe

Hey guys,

I've read most of the articles on here about safes and I am getting ready to buy one. I was curious if anyone had a good Liberty v, Fort Knox comparison to give me. The web is devoid of any head-to-head comparisons.

Maybe somebody who has owned both or had to use their warranty. Basically I'm looking at the Liberty Pres and the Ft. Knox Titan. largest size and manual lock no matter which one I get. Both seem more than ample for simple burglary and the fire protection is close, depending on how you rate it. Perhaps the interior on one doesn't hold up as well or the paint is crap. So forth and so on.

Also, I've heard the manual locks have to be serviced every year, is that true?

Can anyone give me a little input to break the dead-lock I've got?

I have both the Liberty safe and a Fort Knox. The Liberty safe is a good one but the Fort Knox is much better. The inner steel lining of the FN is the saame gauge as the outer steel of the Liberty. The FN Titan also weighs twice as much as the Liberty on similar size safes but also cost more. I do like my Liberty safe but my more prized items are in the Fort Knox.

thanks for the input. I'm just trying to justify the extra money for the Titan over the Presidential. It is a one time investment and that inner liner does look good! The only turn-off is that I may have to wait 6 weeks to get a FK with black chrome on the handle and lock. I hate that gold look and it seems that nobody stocks the black chrome.

Have you looked at the National Security line of Liberty safes? They seem to be "upgraded" Liberty's and mine (MG-42) is 1200 lbs with 18 1 1/2" locking lugs, 1638 degree rating for 45 min. and lights and plugs inside. A real nice safe if you don't want to pay for the FK.

I have the Victory series and it is a great safe. Exterior and interior finishes are both excellent, and fire rating is 1300 degrees for 1 hour.

Fella's;

If the only choice is Liberty or Ft. Knox, take the Ft. Knox. Current Liberty's have a composit sheet metal wrap for a door. In other words, sheet metal on a fire insulation core. Very second-rate burglary protection IMHO.

Of course, for the price of a good Ft. Knox, you are getting into the price territory of an actual U.L. listed safe, not an RSC.

And I wouldn't mind having a shot a quoting a safe against a Knox.

Fort Knox Protector 6637 with upgraded fire door (to 1680 for 90 minutes), electronic lock and 5 thingie handle. like 2600 bucks

plus figure tax (4.25%) plus a $250 delivery adn setup fee

so he's probably at 3 grand delivered.


same size safe in a Guardian was about 2800 (including electronic lock, 5 handle thingie) plus tax and $250 delivery.
