Hi All,
I'm new to forum and found you folks yesterday after picking up my first wheelgun, a 5" Bbl S&W M&P/ Model 1905 4th change in 38 Spl. I was out pricing new 1911s, but I couldn't pass up the S&W for $200. It's got a few rust spots, but overall the blueing is good; probably 95% or so finish. It's also wearing what appear to be the original wood stocks with a Pachmayr grip gapper that appears to be of equal age. Lockup is still very tight and I now know what people are talking about when they refer to those perfect old S&W triggers -- it's a heckuva sweet pull. A little poking around online told me its "S prefix", S 910xxx, SN puts manufacture at between 1945 to 1948 when the "C prefix" was started. I ran a few 124 gr JHPs thru it yesterday afternoon, but after some reading on here i discovered the fixed sights were more likely regulated for 148 gr semi wadcutters. So, this afternoon I picked up some 150 gr lead flat nose winchester white box rounds, which was the closest thing i could find. I quickly discoverd how accurate my new revolver is with the heaver slugs - its a real shooter. I thought I was just picking up a truck gun/ backup for my Glock. Little did I know that overnight an old S&W with some "charecter" on the finish would become a new favorite firearm behind some peices passed on from family members.
