So I’ve done my research and am familiar with the history of Goex pinnacle powder. A gun range has an unopened bottle for sale that has obviously sat there for years. I figure the bottle has to be at least ten years old at this point.

Do you guys think it will still ignite after all these years? Is it worth picking up for the twenty bucks they are asking just to see if this stuff actually burns clean like people used to claim? Or maybe just to have a piece of history in my closet and save the bottle as a unique item.

Thanks.

It will definitely work just fine.
I have some of the original Clean Shot powder that's from the original maker of both APP and Pinnacle powders.
It's much older than Pinnacle and has always worked fine.
But I never leave the bottle open or take it with me shooting where it can absorb moisture.
It only gets opened as briefly as possible.
Since I had worked up a hunting load with it, I load the gun at home before going out.
I bought another full bottle of it at a gun show without doubting that it would work just fine.

I basically treat APP the same way and put revolver charges into pill bottles at home to take to the range.
Some gets put into a flask for measuring but the bottle stays closed as much as possible.

I had a bottle of Clear shot that was around 11 years old when I got it. Yes, it burns clean, so clean that I used it to clean between strings with Pyrodex that gummed my NMA up too much to use. Cleaning was easy too. Velocity was very low. I was getting around 600 FPS with clear shot, vs around 900-1000 with Pyrodex or FFF Goex

It's burns pretty clean but there's variables.
In part it depends on if it's fired with or without lube.
Using lube with it is not recommended and makes it messier by creating a sludge, although some people use it with lubed patches without complaints.
The dry residue will build up in a revolver bore a little bit, but it wipes right out with a wet swab.
By using a loading press and applying a lot of compression and an over powder card, the 3F creates more velocity and plenty of smoke.

It works well with sabots because the greyish residue is light, soft and easy to remove, and allows for reloading multiple shots.

The 2F granulation is so chunky that it may not pour very well from some powder flasks.
That won't cause misfires in revolvers, but could be a concern with some sidelocks.

Since this powder is more " chunky " wouldn't that leave more space between each grain and throw off your measuring ,in other words wouldn't you need to put in more powder to comepsate for that?
Sorry for the spelling....
