Found a Makarov locally: Good buy or not?

I bought one back in the early 1990's and still shoot it. It has always cycled what ever I put through it, and it's actually pretty accurate too. I really like shooting it.

Good buy. One of my first carry guns was a Makarov. Its a very tough and capable firearm. I don't know if you can find them anymore but I carried mine with the Silver Bear 115gr JHPs. I didn't feel under gunned in the least.

Sorry for the late reply; I attached a pic of the IJ 70. It came with 2 original mags total. I ordered the fixed sight + 2 mak mags from keepshooting.com. I will see how they work when they arrive, hopefully okay.

Don't buy a FEG PA-63! While it's a nice little pistol and I like it, mine has a broken ejector and I can't find one ANYWHERE.

I agree- if you want ":small" get a P64- much more durable and surprisingly accurate. Swap out the recoil& main springs with the Wolff units and it's GTG.
PA63 is slick, but alloy frames and warmish ammo.....not for me.

I've had my PA-63 and never had any problems with it.I bought it for 150.00 from a private owner and in new condition. Honestly, I really think it was brand new.I got it like it came from the dealer. He put it back in the oily plastic bag and put it in the box with the paper work and I got the cleaning rod with it. I got a box of ammo with it and only 10 were spent.I asked why he wanted to sell it so cheap and he said he just didnt like it.It didnt feel right.I use winchester brass for it and it has been so reliable for me.So just because one person has a problem with one doesnt mean they're all bad.I also know someone who carries one and says it's reliable also.I guess I got a good one ! :D

I didn't say it was a bad pistol, but the broken ejector that I can't find a replacement for makes it a paperweight. It was my pocket gun, I miss it and want it back in service! I didn't have any troubles shooting it either, and I have no idea how long that ejector has been broken. I took it apart a few weeks ago and the damn thing fell out in two pieces. For all I know, if I put it back together it may still work. But I'd really like a new part, can't find one.

Looks like this....

The Makarov Pistol (Pistolet Makarov) is a better gun than both the PA-63, and PA-64. I hope the OP or others don't confuse these with a true Makarov pistol as they do shoot the same caliber.

Go for a CZ 82-Double stack 12 round & deadly accurate.

I plan on it in the future. I held one once, the CZ 82 is nice.

No worries, I can promise you I would not confuse those. Why do you think the PM is better than the PA-63/64? Do you see the former as just more reliable than the latter?
