Now this won’t help many people on here, but it may give others some hope. I stopped into a small mom and pop reloading store I had no idea existed while traveling for work. Long story short I was able to score 2 lbs of IMR 4350, 1 lb of RL-17, and a box of 212 gr ELD-X bullets for my 300 WinMag. They only let me get 1 of the RL-17 since they only got one case of it in, which is fine by me. They are curbside service only, you have to call and order what you need, pay over the phone, and they will bring it out to you. While I was waiting on them to bring out my order, I peeked in the front picture window to see a pallet stacked 3 courses high of boxes of powder. Alliant, Hodgdon, and Winchester. Several boxes of it looked like Winchester powder stacked on the table opened up next to the pallet. They don’t ship, so if you aren’t from around the area and able to pickup, you are SOL. I was shocked that this small mom and pop place had that kind of stock coming in, when the big names around here (Cabelas, Sportsman’s, and Scheels) can’t seem to get anything in. Where did I find this? Glenrock Components in Glenrock, WY - pop. 2576!
So if you are around the central Wyo area, hit them up, they may have what you need. If you aren’t from around these parts, at least have hope that small mom and pop places are getting stock in, so it’s getting better! I haven’t seen RL 17 since last October anywhere!

It ain't necessarily that the box stores don't get stock in, but they have so many customers that when it does come in, it disappears in days, or even hours.
I realize they could just be feeding me a line, but the counter guys at cabelas told me just last week that they only get 4 or 5 lbs per shipment if any at all. Sportsman’s in 2 different locations said basically the same thing.

Another aspect of this is that the box stores' orders generally go to a central warehouse, which then gets divided by a bunch of stores, where Mom n Pop get their entire order for themselves.
And then we can go into the entire "open to buy" practice of chain retailers. Your store sold only 17 lb of Hodgdon powder because that's all you had on the shelf?.... the corporate no-it-alls say you're only allowed to order 17 Lb of powder, because that's all you sold. Mom & Pop get to order as much as they see fit to order... say... 25 lb., because they believe they will sell it.
Retail ain't pretty, folks.

That’s not related to Glenrock Blue is it? I have been contemplating sending a scratched up Win 94 Golden Spike Rifle to them after I get it cut down to 16.5”. It will need to be refinished in something not faux gold like it is now.

Stay safe.

About 6 months back, was driving down the road and passed a gun shop I never knew was there. Dropped in to see what they had......some guns, no ammo or reloading stuff. But as for ammo and reloading stuff, what they told me was all of it goes through only one layer of about 10 to 12 wholesale distributors. They all end up chirping like baby birds for their little piece of the worm. The big outfits like Midway, Scheels, Walmart, BPS, etc. do not go through distributors, but buy direct from factory.

Likely as not, you local mom and pop is a long time customer of one of those distributors and are being taken care of.....as they should be.

I have no idea if the 2 are related, wish I could be more help!

Good to know! I bet that old lady running the place probably scares the hell out of the competition! And yes, I’m assuming they are a long time business, so I’m glad to see they are being taken care of.

Local Cabelas has small pistol primers on the shelf today. Had about 7 to 8 thousand and would only sell 1,000 per person. I grabbed 1K and it cost me $70 OTD. If I ordered the same from Midway the 1K would of been over $100 with shipping and hazmat.

I told myself last year I wouldn’t pay over $50 per 1K but my SPP stash is getting low and since I didn’t have to pay hazmat and shipping I decided to get them.

So yea, that was my Unicorn find for the day
