Found these in an old building today.

Notice the .22LR boxes are different.

One is a partial box of hollow points in a Winchester box, while the others are in Western boxes. The Western boxes where in a brick package.

Codes on the Western boxes are YF 41 and the code on the Winchester box is WG 51. Any idea how old they are?

How old would you guess the Remington .38-40's are?

I would guess 40-50 years old.

They appear in good shape. I would not hesitate to shoot them. Someone might want the boxes.

Ammo, if stored reasonably (and this has been by the look of the boxes) has at least a 75 year life, maybe more than a hundred.

The NRA did tests on hundred year plus ammo, and it was mostly good to go.

Yep I shot a lot of it up then also. Might be that the last two digits are the year date code. The center fire ammo is from the 40'sor 50's IIRC. I bet some on here still have socks older than that ammo. :D PS I have some of those boxes of .22 that were left to me by my grandfather with instructions to save them for "hard times".

Good find however. I bet it still shoots fine if you don't want to bother sell it as a collectable.:) I even have a brick or two of the Cleanbore REM .22 ammo that I have collected over time.

I don't know exactly how old they are, but I emptied 3 of those Western boxes last weekend. Still have 8 or so boxes left. Mine are 22WMR, though. They were Grandpa's. He died in 1981, so I figured they were from the '70s. Sounds like they might be older than that.

I think I also have a couple of those old Remington KleenBore boxes, too. They might be .357 or 44 mag. But I'm sure they're packed with some of his handloads.

I have a box of the Western sitting on my shelf, in 22 Mag. Bought it back in the later '70s. Just shot some of it a few weeks ago in my NAA Sidewinder. A good vintage indeed for a neat revolver. :)

The warning label started in 1961 iirc.

Check the address; zip codes were introduced in 1963, although it wasn't mandatory at first.

I found some a few different varieties at a local shop the other day. They're from before my time.

I have a box of Remington .30 that is in a box of the same design as the one in trm612's post. I will try to post some pics tomorrow. They are from the 1940's would be my guess.

I'm old enough to remember all but the Canuck ammo and the Remington.
