A couple of days ago, we had a drive-by shooting here in Milwaukee. The shooters hit the guy they were after. They also shot and killed a four year-old girl who was jumping rope in front of her house.

Naturally, the city is outraged.

Here's the part that just eats away at me: the lowlife who got shot knows who the shooters are, because he was in an altercation with them earlier. But he won't tell the cops. He knows who shot him, knows who killed the little girl, but won't give up the names.

What's with these guys?

The main thing that sticks out to me is that the scumbags had an altercation earlier that day and planned to seek out the other and try to kill them. How to you stop that nonsense? Sometimes the innocent get caught up in wars about ego. It's pretty sad that men cant face one another and handle there business man to man, instead they go and kill an innocent child.

the sad truth is that there is no way to stop it. As long as there are people on this planet, there are going to be those who fight, argue, and seek revenge.

I did an experiment back in college in my sociology class. There was a person in the class who said that there is never a reason to fight. I pushed him. He still said there was no reason to fight. I pushed him again. He continued to say that there was no reason so I pushed him a third time. He then pushed me back. I told him that I proved my point and sat back down.

Revenge is a human trait, fighting back is a natural reaction done in both human and animal species. It is unfortunate how many times the innocent are pulled into the fights.

Maybe cities should offer free firearms classes to any citizens. If gang bangers are going to kill each other, let them, but at least teach them to shoot straight so they stop hitting innocents.

They are dealing with the same closed-mouth stuff in Philly right now.

How about, if a murder is committed and you don't speak up, if evidence proves later that you did indeed know the perpetrator you could be charged with the same or some other severe crime?

Already on the books in many jurisdictions, obstruction of justice, etc.

Street cred

They don't want hurt their street cred,as they call it,they might get a record deal later.
Gather the people who want to live there, train them, arm them, and turn them loose to take back their city, they will take better care of something that they have fought and bled for.
As we all know, you cannot keep it if you won't fight for it.If it is not worth fighting for, then leave, and let the gangs have at it.

992, no can do. The majority of residents of the mostly black north side of Milwaukee are anti-gun. The black leadership tells them that guns are bad, and they just follow along.

Three years ago, two other gun-rights activists and I were invited to talk before a community association about our proposed concealed carry bill. We were met with so much hostility that we exited the building, with the police protecting us.

There's going to be a public senate hearing on SB104, a bill that would ban the private sales of firearms in Milwaukee county. The hearing will be at a state-owned building smack dab in the middle of the ghetto.

I plan to attend, but it will be with a large group, and we'll all enter and exit as a group.

I'd get the names for them. I just need half an hour, some scrap iron, and a candle.:fire:

Stop Snitching!

That's a theme in rap. It's a theme in t-shirts, with bullet-riddled stop signs or zipper-mouthed smilie-faces.

A few Stop Snitching t-shirts in court will quiet some witnesses, who get the implied threat.

These guys won't give up the shooter. And their lawyer will not let you question them with scrap iron and a candle :)

People act like "stop snitching" is a new phenomenon. As long as I can remember, in certain circles it was always frowned upon to speak to police about anything. All that's happened recently is that some misguided entrepreneurs have given it a brand name.

A number of years ago

I got into an altercation at work after a co worker sucker punched me.
He used his elbow and claimed it was a mistake, it was a carefully planned type of move that a ex con would use I surmised ...I called the cops as this guy knew where I lived and I wanted a paper trail in case I had to shoot him.

Everyone at work was angered that I involved the police.

A few years later when the CA sex offender list was published it turns out I was correct, the guy was in there for violent rape:eek:

I figure the more cops being called on real crimes, the fewer out there giving me speeding tickets.

This type of attitude been around for a long time(omertà, for instance). All they did was slap a slogan onto it and call it their own. I would even go as far as to say that it has been around as long as courts have. It doesn't take a genius to get that having a witness testify against you is bad news(where testimony is really all they have to convict you), especially before forensics came about, and that the obvious solution would be to intimidate them into not testifying.

The Italians called it "Omerta" IIRC.

I've even read here at THR, said and written things like "What you say can and will be used against you... so be chary about what you say to LEO's..." never thinking about my actions taking an innocent life of course. Nor was I thinking of payback by outsiders, but rather self incrimination by stating something stupid in the moments following excessive excitement. (Let your lawyer do your speaking)

Vengeful retribution by outlaws and ner-do-wells for speaking out can ruin your entire life, not to mention the lives of innocent people around you whom you love.

Whoever thought that a certain segment of society, with no use for (some) law or law enforcement would rather continue to suffer in self imposed silence and deal with it through their own channels? It's as if parallel cultures exist with some commonality, albeit each group having separate definitions for good v. bad actions. Sorta the same old, same old, eh?

I remember my kids when they were 4 years old. Joyful innocence personified.

It's a theme in society in general (which is why we all know what rat, narc, squeal, and being a stool pidgeon mean), only more so when the people don't trust the police, have reason to think that their testimony will get them in further trouble, or that justice would be better served outside of the regular system
