What do you guys think of the Franchi 410? A friend of mine may be selling his Franchi Instinct 410 O/U. He's had it for awhile and shot it very little so it's like new. I can get a new one from Reeds in Minnesota for $1250 shipped; local transfer is $25 so my total investment would be $1275. What would be a fair price? He's a good friend so I don't want to make a low-ball offer. Would $1,000 seem right? You can't answer this 2nd concern, which is that I've been looking for a Remington 870 Wingmaster 410, when this option popped up. But, I have to consider it at least. For the kind of shooting I do the 870 is the better option, but the Franchi is a beauty and I would like to have it. I suppose the option of buying both is open, but would shoot the budget to hell. What terrible dilemmas, eh?

In .410 you will like the o/u. I don't know about the price but it is a much better gun in my opinion. Shoot it and see if you like it.

I appreciate your thoughts, but I goofed. It's not an Instinct; it's a Falconette. That's a considerable goof. The Instinct is a much better gun....well much nicer in terms of fit and finish. At least that's my current understanding. Also learned that Franchi is imported by Stoeger. My experience with Stoeger has been negative. Oh well, all will be revealed Saturday morning when I get to shoot the gun. I'll let you know.

Franchi and Stoeger are both subsidiaries of Beretta now. The Stoeger entity was merely the importer at the time.

As you note, there is a considerable difference between the Falconet and an Instinct. The 410 is almost certainly on a Duralum frame, and on many of them the annodization has become quite tatty. If it's in very good shape, it may be worth $250 - $300.
