Franford Arsenal QuickNEZ tumbler almost on fire!

Started my tumbler last weekend in the garage, like normal and came back out a few hours later and the tumbler was not running and WHOAH I smelled a serious electrical burn! Checked the tumbler and it was still switch to ON but was not running and it was definitely producing the electrical fire smell! I had only had it about 2 months and the manf date was 6/2007. I wonder if it has a breaker inside it to keep it from burning the garage down....sure hope so.

At any rate I talked to someone at Battenfeld Tech and they said just send it in and they would replace it. The next day before boxing it up I checked to see if it would work and sure enough it does. I threw it in the box and shipped it anyway...dont want to take chances. Received my new tumbler (yes new, not the same one) yesterday. The funny thing is that this one is MUCH quieter than the burned one...wonder if that had something to do with the problem? I am out $10 shipping but they could also have said no and I would have been out more.

It may have jammed up, in which case it would draw a lot more current than normal. Definately not a good thing, but luckily you were around to see it before anything bad happened.

I know the original one they sold had a recall way back when they first came out, for the installation of a fuse to prevent such occurances. I wonder if these newer models have such a device?

I bought the vibratory tumbler kit with the separator last summer. I'm guessing the same model you're talking about. Makes me feel real good about leaving it running unattended in my basement.

I bought one of the old ones back about 15 years ago, before they were called Frankford Arsenal they were Midway brand. Anyway, I had it for a year or so, and Midway recalled it for an overheating issue. They paid for shipping both ways, and I've never had a problem with it in all those years.

Mine not an FA tumbler, but if I know that I'm going to leave it unattended I pull it almost the full length of the cord out. It sits on concrete but the shop is wood and I had thought about that motor in there burning up so this was a little insurance.
