Frederick, MD gun shops

Can anyone tell me why the shops in Frederick are so expensive??? One shop has sale prices that are above the msrp.

I don't know about Frederick, but all the gun shops I've hit in PRM have prices that are exorbitant. A Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 that costs high $300-low$400 in many places is roughly $550 (direct quote from dealer in P.G. county). The new Series 70 I just bought was $200 over the prices I've seen folks pay in other locations, ('course I got lucky since there ain't no more S70's coming into MD thanks to the trigger lock law). And that's without taxes (5% state sales) and the MSP "gratuity" tax.


In other words, I don't know either. Must be pretty tough to own a gun shop behind the lines.

May be related to the fact that a lot of the old favorates can't be imported into MD due to lack of internal locks.

The Gun Center??? You've got to be kidding. Those yoyos will hose you every way they can, and have been doing so for years. And now they don't even sell reloading supplies.

About the only way to get a deal if you live here in the sunny PRMD, is to go to a neighboring state gun show , buy one there and have it sent to your local FFL. Of course, it has to have been made before 1/1/03 or it has to have the trigger lock. Ah, the lasting legacy of Paris Glendenning. For those in driving distance, there is a really good show this weekend in Greencastle, PA. I got my Kimber Custom Royal there in February of this year.

One cost item is that on 1911 types and Glocks, the dealer can install a lock mechanism, but that is obviously at extra cost. Also, many MD dealers feel that they will eventually be put out of business and figure to make as much money as they can.

Then consider that Frederick dealers are low volume compared to dealers in other areas or other states; the cost of keeping the lights on is the same, whether it is divided by 50 guns a month or 500. But if the dealer sells 500, he can give a break that the guy who sells 50 just can't meet.

BTW, Walters Gun Chamber will be at the Frederick Fairgrounds on Nov 8-9 with a whole building of guns. Their prices are usually fair (I didn't say cheap) and they have lots of stuff you don't see in the Frederick shops.

Cheap gunshops in Maryland is an oxymoron.

Like echo3mike who bought a Series 70 that had a fired case but was made before 1/1/03, I bought a pair of Colt WWII repros just before the end of the year (Colt had just started doing the fired case thing). More than retail? You betcha, but at least I got them.

Remember, new guns even if bought out of state and manufactured before 1/1/03 have to have a FACTORY fired case included. And Colt didn't do many of them prior to 03. A dealer or you cannot supply a fired case.

F Glendenning? Absolutely. But let's thank God that Townsend didn't get elected - she was the real anti-gun force behind him.

Probably old news to everyone but me...

I never realized there was actually a shop downtown:

I stopped in there today. Small shop, friendly banter, no problem with handling mechandise.

Prices for new pistols are high (for previously stated reasons) .

The good news was....He'll transfer handguns for $30 which

includes Maryland paperwork. That sounded pretty reasonable to me as the other guy in town (Rosemont Ave) hand a formula that was hard to comprehend. Rosemont also wanted a letter certifiying that the transferred handgun was indeed used......

All in all Gunrunners sounded pretty reasonable..and friendly.

Caveat...I'm new to all of this and probably don't know what I don't know!
