Anyone know of any free floats that have at least a 1 7/8 inner diameter to them? I'm building a 16" 300 blk upper with pistol gas system and the barrel I have has a .936 gas block size. I've been looking at getting one of the paladin adjustable gas blocks (only reasonably priced one that can switch between two settings on the fly) and just gave a shout to the guy today and he informed me that I need a tube at least this wide in order to clear the gas block, kinda throws a wrench in my plans as I usually use these YHM knockoffs that have a 1 3/4 ID. Anyone have any suggestions, sucks because hardly any of the free float manufacturers post ID of the things. Anyone know if the basic DPMS free float will work for this?

Not using a piston, just a DI with an adjustable gas block. You can't even use piston with 300 blk as far as I know. I think I might have found a free float that will work (one that the rail bolts to the barrel nut assembly and not one that screws on). Just waiting on a reply from the seller as to what the width of the channel under the top rail is.

You might consider a more standard size handguard and notch out around the adjustable gas block so you can get too it to adjust it?

Ya after looking at pictures of the gas block and the front of the rail I'm looking at I think I'll have to do heavy modding to get this to work. According to looking at pictures and using calipers and some math the gas block is .65 wide at the top and the rail is .50 in the channel. Will probably order the rail and a basic dpms gas block for now and at least see how she runs with subs and supers and make my decision from there. Should be a fun project though to take a big chunk out of a quad rail, at least the one I'm looking at is a $30 free shipping ebay special so I won't be too sad if I destroy it beyond all hope :D

What about using a barrel with a .750 gas block? That's what I use, and my .300 works great.

I have a few different brands of free float tubes. I'll measure the I.D. of the DPMS and a couple of others. I doubt that they'll be 1 7/8", though.

Already have the barrel...

Was a really good deal,16" CMMG melonite treated for $171 closeout special on midway so it was hard to pass up.
