I just had a new thought.

Freedom isn't free, look at all the money we spend on guns!!

Although I haven't bought a new gun this year ( yet ) I have probably spent close to 1K$ on holsters, ammo and such. How about ya'll?

I suspect that this thread was a light-hearted effort to talk about gun budgets - not a thread about the politics of military service and/or policies. I've had to delete a bunch of posts that diverged too far from THR's mission, just to save what's left in this thread.

Let's stay on topic, or the thread will have to be closed as inappropriate for THR.

This year for me on guns/accessories...

Pocket holster, belt clip, magazines for a P-11.
Hogue grips, IWB holster for the Colt Commander.
A S&W model 36,(used, an oldie but a goodie), hogue grips, IWB holster for the 36.
Hogue grips for a S&W model 66.
Enough ammo to keep them all fed, don't forget the range fees.
CCW class and associated costs/fees.
Reloading dies for 32 Winchester special, also bullets/ powder primers.
several bricks of 22 ammo.
couple of boxes of ammo for the 32 Winchester special.
Rough total just a touch over $1,200 and the year ain't over yet!

There are a lot of guys on here that spend a lot more than that on boats, cars, motorcylces, etc. Thats just not my thing. Its surprising how small a pile of ammo that is though. I just timed the market right, remember walmark bulk packs of 45acp for $19.97? Yeah, my brother in law and I bought a load of em!

#3 brought a tear to my eyes. My position is the more you know about whats going on in our country the more guns and ammo you will have. True statement about freedom not being free. But the following is true also.

Slavery costs more than freedom. It just looks cheaper until you've bought it and realize the high price of lost dignity/honor/integrity.

Fine lets stay on topic, I spend around $10k a year on my hobby. When I can afford to I will spend a lot more, its still a lot cheaper than sailing.


I have met people at the range who seem to spend $30k-$40k a year on gun purchases and ammo, I look forward to being in that position.

I remember just after my first deployment, I made a budget for the money I saved while deployed. I put X amount of money in a CD, some in savings, and then I went on a shopping spree that year. I believe I bought roughly 4 guns along with a gun safe. The following year bought 3 more. Must have spent at least $5000 in those two years on guns and the safe. That is not counting some of the ammunition I bought. Expensive? Yes. Fun? ABSOLUTELY!!

I spent $7,000 last year on guns and probably another $2,000 on ammunition, accessories, range fees, etc. This year I have cut back to restocking ammo and range fees. But there is still a sneaking desire for a S&W Model 1917 and the matching holster from El Paso Saddlery... or a Walther P99 to complete my set (P22, PK380, P99)... or finally breaking down and buying a real live, genuine SIG Sauer P226.

It seems, just based on watching the news, that Iraqis and Afghans have greater gun freedoms than we do. I get the impression that just about everyone owns a full auto AK. I don't just mean the guerillas, but everyday folks.
Is it true that full auto weapons are legal in those places for normal citizens, not just the bandits and ununiformed armies?

No freedom is not free, I've spent roughly $2,000.00 in the last 12 month on one new (to Me) revolver and ammo.

Don't forget that it takes much more than a weapon to be free.

It is a common one and always refers to military service and personla sacrifice.
Not the price of goods.
You guys who ducked it will never comprehend it.
