S&K scope mount for the Mas 1936 rifle is a neat concept. It is like the French built the Mas for this mount, it is a no drill/tap, no mar, solid, secure and quickly reversible back to military configuration.

Mount is pinned and two locking set screws impinge in left dovetail

Often read of the Mas 1936 (like most milsurps) shooting high at 100 yards on lowest sight setting. But unlike many other of the milsurps, the 1936 is easily corrected. I did not come up with this solution but found it on the Net.

With the rear sight on lowest setting, push down on the spring loaded aperture, hey, it goes further down. Cut desired shims to size and thickness, insert beneath sight slider to depress the aperture as desired to get dead on for elevation at 100 yards. Some guys use nothing more than paper shims, others use brass or whatever.

Looks well built, how much did that set you back, if you don't mind my asking?

Is that a .308 Century conversion MAS? I take it it's working well for you :) I'm sure some folks would be jealous of the ease with which you can find ammo :p

Pic is not of my Mas, it was just to show the S&K mount, of which I will be ordering one out.

Mine I got from a private party for $200.00, it is not a .308 conversion, is still in 7.5x54 which is about on par with the .308. 7.5x54 ammo is now easy to come by, several companies are loading for it, Prvi Partizan ammo and brass is available from Graf's. I started by converting Swede 6.5x55 Mauser brass to 7.5x54, one pass through a Lee 7.5x54 FLSD and it is ready to load and shoot, takes standard .308 diameter bullets.

It is a very well made rifle, the ergonomics of the bolt was bit strange at first, but once got used to operating with open palm, makes for a slick and fast firing bolt action rifle. The rifle until recently was a real sleeper, initially could be had for less than 100 bucks, but once shooters came to realize what a fine rifle it was, that is changing fast. See them on Gunbroker & etc listed at several hundred dollars now. A variation of the Mas 1936 chambered in 7.62x51 (.308) is still the primary sniper rifle of French military and police.

17" cruciform spike bayonet is reverse stored in forearm, released by a button, drawn out, then snapped back into receptacle ready for action:

This is pic of mine, it was refurbed in 1970s and stored until 1990s, is like new:

I think that out of all my military bolt rifles I like the MAS the best, I even took it to a high power match last month...did pretty well with it in fact.

Yeah it's available, but I still share your pain; I own two 7.5 Swiss K31's :D. Hopefully there'll be a source for these cartridges for years to come. I still find it funny how many military chamberings out there duplicated the .308/30-06, except where casing dimensions were concerned. In my case, it's nigh-on impossible to rechamber, but I've heard some folks do have good results with the converted MAS's (just not many :uhoh:).

Actually, the French 7.5x54 case with the neck opened up is almost identical to the 6.5x55 Mauser and is very close to the 7.65x53 Mauser. So appears 7.62x51 (.308) did the duplicating.

To convert the Mas 1936 rifle to .308 requires setting the barrel back to rechamber. The way the Mas 1936 is designed. once barrel is set back, it screws up the works as to the forestock installation for it leaves no way to install.

The Mas 1949-56 semi auto battle rifle conversions to .308 creates a problem with slam fires unless military primers are used or the firing pit is altered.
