Friend bought Ruger P89...has questions

A friend of mine picked up a Ruger P89 "special edition" two-tone. He likes the pistol. The chamber area is exceptionally thick; they weren't kidding when they said Rugers are built like tanks. He likes the manual of arms. The double action trigger pull is heavy, but smooth, and the single action pull will work, if it's not great.

In any case, he has questions.

-Magazines. Where to get 15 round magazines? Yeah, I know, I know, factory and Mec-Gar, but those are hard to find and are often very expensive. Where are good places to get magazines? (No decent gun shows in our area, btw. Online sources wanted.)

-Holsters. Who makes a good concealed carry holster for the Ruger 9mm?

Magazines are going to be a little bit hard to find. I just checked CDNN and they did not have any. I got all my 15 round mags years ago when they were plentiful. Have not had to search for them in years!!

This is the best I can come up with. The P95 mags are interchangeable with the P89.

Huh? The Ruger isn't any bigger than a Beretta, Sig, or other double stack 9mm. It's certainly smaller and lighter than my CZ-97, and I plan on carrying THAT...

Looks like he might have to settle for USA and Pro-Mag brands. Hmm...I heard of a trick that might work. You can still order factory 9mm followers and springs for 15 round magazines (the followers haven't changed, even on the 10 rounders). I've heard that installing these (or Wolff springs) onto an aftermarket mag with a solid body can often result in a very reliable magazine. After all, most aftermarket mag problems seem to be bad followers and springs...

I had a hicap Promag for a Baby Eagle. It seemed to be a really nicely finished and engineered mag. Their springs are crummy, though. I would go factory Ruger (like you said) or Wolff, if you want to spend the big money, and leave the Promag follower.

Rugers are really wide, except when compared to a Beretta. Tough gun, though. Shame they weren't up to speed before the first XM9 trial.

 

[P95Carry]

Nightcrawler ......... for my P95 I use currently 2 main carry methods. Today and recently it has been a Fobus paddle .. I like it a lot, as long as I have my shirt on of course! Retention is excellent but draw is also easy ... I carry at about 4 o'clock with that.

Other rig i like and have used much of winter is Bianchi X13 medium ... sho rig ... suits P95 very well. Pic to follow if I find it.

Just recently bought a Defender ''holster ''belt'' from actiondirect ..... I think this too will prove pretty useful However, once a lot hotter, it'll be back to snubby again!!
