Friendly for lefties

I'm lefty and have adapted to many guns without any problem. The only ones that are difficult for me are Single Action Autos without an ambi-safety.

Sig Sauers are also a little more difficult than others.

H&Ks are great for lefties and amazing guns all around. Don't know where you're getting $1200 though. I picked up a mint stainless USP .40 compact about two months ago for $650 out the door. It was probably the best handgun deal I've come across, but I think you get my point. You can definitely find a used one in the $550-$650 range if you look around. I highly recommend the P2000 for your friend. I have the sub-compact P2000sk and it is one hell of a shooter. The P2000 also has the ambi slide release which makes it totally ambidextrous.

This talk of "adapting" to Glocks is amusing.

There are plenty of pistols out there one need not adapt to at all. You adapt the pistol to yourself.

well, he finally made his choice. hes going with an xd. darn, was kinda hoping to convert him to the church of the 1911

so he joined the XD church instead...he's still more than welcome to come join the P7 CULT. very left handed friendly, especially if his left hand is covered in nomex.

As long as the safety is on the right side and the brass doesn't hit you in the head most autos are fine. Slide releases are not strictly necessary (I use them to lock the slide mostly). Mag releases are easily hit from the other side of the gun. I'm right handed and I hit my USP mag release from the right side and I reversed my PT-92's mag release to the right side. Works great that way (I say better, but it's personal preference).

Revolvers on the other hand are a pain to reload if you switch hands.

DougDubya... I guess you've never had a hot casing go down your shirt, and depending on your stance your line of vision may very well not be centered on your body.

It's a minor thing, but thought I'd mention it trying to be helpful to the person asking the question.

EOD - the only casing's I've had join me in my shirt ricocheted off the wall or separation panel at the range.

My stance also tends to be a mishmash of Isosceles and Weaver, so it's wedged in front of me a la the Iso, but with the push-pull stabilization of the Weaver.

My girlfriend, however, occasionally gets one stuck in her hair, and wore a tank top ONCE while shooting.

ONCE.

Many CZ75 models are lefty friendly: the SP-01s have an ambidextrous safety OR decocker (make sure your friend knows if he wants Cocked and Locked or DA/SA and to stick with it!), and I find that it is very easy to trip the mag release and slide stop with the left trigger finger, (easier than some right handed shooters with short thumbs) so I have no reason to have those controls lefty... In theory the SP01 mag catch *can* be switched.

the CZ85 has a ambi slide stop along with safety.

On a budget, a CZ82 is a bargain with ambi safety and mag drop.

SIGs, good pistols that they are, are NOT lefty friendly.

I've got a Walther P99 and a Glock 36, both of which work well for me. The Walther is a little more friendly with the ambi mag release.
