I have a website where i speak about guns : http://gunsmith.fr.

Welcome indeed.
I can see why you like the 1862 Police. One day I hope to have one like it.
You sure take good care of your firearms.

@rio nueces: The 1862 is excellent : light, accurate, fun and chip too use (less powder and cheaper bullets than an .44) !

I have a Uberti version of the Remington M1858. In my opinion it is a better design than a Colt. Less parts, easy to take out the cylinder, and caps don't fall into the hammer recess.

I found I needed to develop a wrist flip when cocking a Colt. I did this so the fired cap would fall some where else other than between the hammer and the frame.

I also like the fact that the front sight on my Uberti was tall and driftable. I was able to file it and knock it over for a zero. My Colts all shoot high and windage can be anywhere.

I have been using Ox Yoke wads between the bullet and the powder. I am amazed on how these wads reduce barrel fouling. Accuracy is as good as a decent centerfire pistol.

French,

Welcome to the board. Do you carry any of your revolvers? I believe a BP revolver is not regulated in France and can be carried without a permit. True?

Welcome French. You have a more diverse collection than I. I only have three Ruger Old Army pistols and three Uberti Walker Dragoons.

Howdy French,

You have some interesting weapons. Glad you joined us here. I look forward to hearing from you and about your adventures with your sixguns and gunsmithing!

Hello, nice group of pistols you have. Not to get off subject, but I have a St. Etienne, MAS, 16Ga double. It has become my favorite bird gun. Welcome to the forums.

Yes we can buy BP freely but we cannot carry them ! :(

If you like MAS guns, check out this MAS 1874 (french army model, 11mm BP cardriges) :

I plan to buy one but it very expensive !

French, my dad has quite a few French and Belgian revolvers, including several of the pinfires, but my favorite is the 11mm French military revolver. I've seen it listed as a Chamelot Delvigne, and as an 1873 French Ordnance Revolver. It's a great gun. I'd like to measure the chamber and barrel dimensions and make my own cartridges for it. I recall seeing Brendan Fraser wielding 2 of them in the movie "The Mummy".

In France, HC-collection sold kit to make cartridges for the MAS 1873/1874 Chamelot Delvigne : the kit here.

You can make the cartridge by shortening 44MAG cartridges and put BP and round bullet (less accurate) !

Hello.

The main problem of reloading a MAS 1873 is the helled bullet.

Round .454 bullets just seated by hand and cut down .44mag cases work well with black powder (the little "ring" help to keep the bullet in place when recoiling: I don't know the name for that decrease in cylinder chamber diameter ). Or you can use the balleurope 11m73 bullets (helled), but these aren't really more accurate than the round ball.

Welcome and nice collection.

I would like to hear about any 18th century or early 19th century re-enacting groups in France. I have some very distant relatives in Alsace-Lorraine. One day I would like to visit the towns my ancestors came from.

Battaran, I recall a device that mounted to a case trimmer that would shave a heel onto a bullet for loading obsolete outside lubricated bullets. I considered buying one about 25 years ago to reload 38 Extra Long Ballard cartridges. (Another cartridge with (heeled) outside lubricated bullets.)

I was going to say "Bienvenue à la haute route" but I think that loses something in translation. It's more like an invitation to a skiing trip I think.

I like your fix. I'm going to use "coupés à la dremel" in conversation more often now.

Welcome, and very nice pistols indeed -- you get an A- for total coolness!

The Mle 1892 was a blackpowder pistol originally too.

;)

Yes MAS 1892 is a very nice revolver but less loved in france because it's not classify as free category instead of the MAS 1873 or MAS 1874... :banghead:

You need to have authorisation paper to buy MAS 1892 or recent hand guns...

For caps and ball and few old guns like MAS 1873, 1874, Bulldogs, RIC you can buy them freely.

French laws are very restrictives for hand guns :banghead:
