Thanks everyone.

let me explain more. I have 2 rifles that I'm playing with. Remington 700 .270 and a Kassnar 30-06. With the 270 I had trouble with the bullet hitting on target at 100 yards and at 200 yards it would go to the right about 3". At 300 yards at 6" or more. I was using a Speer 90 grain with H380. Then I went to a heaver 130 Nosler bullet. The same. So a good gunsmith suggested me to use David Tubb bullets to knock off any burrs and ect. So after I got that done about 5 months ago. I'm finally going back to develop a new load with the milled weight 130 grain Nosler Balistic Silver Tip. From the Nosler 5th edition with a listing of 10 powder choices I only had one of those powders. Again the H380. In search of another powder to use the same bullet (Nosler 130 grain) I want another with me at the range. In this case the neighbor had some H4831SC I could try out.

Now to the 30-06.
This gun has been a mess for me. I had trouble that the firing pin would not hit hard enough to smash the primer to go bang. To shorten the story; the gunsmith says that he fixed it with 2 cans of bore scrubber. I took it to the range with both my reloads and Wall*Mart Remington 150 grain Core Loc. Every factory round did fire unlike before. My hand loads were the Speer 110 grain spire. About one of 3 of those did fire. So I'm wondering if the short 110 grain is a trouble or my Winchester cases on the short side. Then I'm back to searching another bullet. I decided again a mild Hornady 150 grain Interbond. And again Hornade only has 14 powders and I only have one. IMR4064. So now I need to break down and buy another pound of powder. I'm going to take a chance on H414.

I decided to try the two powders based on from top to bottom. In the 30-06 I had IMR 4064 that was about 1/3 from the top of the list. From their I thought of H 414 about 1/3 from the bottom of the list.

In the 270 issue; basically the same thing I have the H380 in the middle of the list and, the neighbor had the H4831SC that's 2ed from the bottom of the list. I figure its a good start.

I reliese the H380 the Speer guide likes a mag primer for all ball powders. I'm not sure ware I read that a mag primers is required for freezing temps. Now what do you think about from their?

Incase you are wondering why all the light bullets. In the state of Ohio rifles are only good for small game. So my thinking was a small bullet.

Partial Sizing

My thoughts on the 30/06 ...a bolt action right? If so I think you are over sizing the cases or your rifle has an over size chamber, because you say that factory loads will fire but not you reloads. Give this a try....back out on your sizing die a couple turns ....what you should get is a case that you can not close the bolt down on....turn the die in (down toward shellholder) 1/4 turn at a time until you can close the bolt down with just slight ressitance ...not too tight or too loose. What I think that is happening is the case is under sized and the firing pin is driving the case forward so that the primer is not being set off. This problem can cause case separation if you are able to get the primers to fire with out support of the case shoulder. Head space ...the 30/06 headspaces on the shoulder and you're moving the shoulder too far back!

By the way what do you mean by Milled bullets?

Mild Is the proper word I wanted. I was coping and pasting the above story for spell cheak and other dumb junk and got confused.

JimKirk.
One of the two gunsmiths told me about that also. Only neck the brass. These loads I have just done for the 30-06 are using "NEW" never fired brass. That also confused me thinking that this gun does not need an undersized die. This 30-06 is what I tough myself for hand loading ammo Then tat occurred and had to look other places for help.
