I have kids. There are no loaded weapons in my house that aren't locked up or under my direct control. The Model 12 is in the longgun safe, and my CCW, when not on my person, is in the bedside safe.

Many people in this forum carry while in their homes. There are compelling reasons for doing so. For my own personal reasons, I do not to carry while in my house.

With this in mind, and without turning this into a "you should carry in your home, too" thread, I'm looking for member opinions on the usefullness and practicality of a wall-mounted handgun safe in the front hall closet.

This would make a gun accessible for opening the door late at night, or if I had to get out of the house immediately, and didn't have time to go all the way upstairs to the bedroom. (A possible situation: "Daddy, someone just drove away with my sister!")

I guess I just don't understand why you don't get the gun from your bedside safe before you go to answer the door....?

But if you want to have multple guns secured at various places in your house, it sounds all right to me.

And I hope you can get any of those safes open fast enough when somebody is breaking down the door or crashing through a window... :uhoh:

I agree, given your particular criteria, that seems a reasonable way to handle it.

To carry it out to the logical conclusion, you may want to (if you have the depth of bench) preposition a couple more. Maybe by the back door and a central "retreat to and defend" area in case the "close to entrance gun" is behind enemy lines.

Good ideas already. Thanks for the input, and the links.

If you haven't read it, the A World Without Guns link in Sundfolge's signature is a good read.

Understandable. The layout of my house is a little strange. It would take me quite a while to retrieve a gun from my room, and I would have to walk by the front door on my way.
