I was shooting my relatively new GP100 today and noticed that I do not like the front sight at all. I usually shoot 1911s but wanted to take my GP100 to shoot steel plates this weekend and thought I'd better hit the range first. Well, I had a difficult time finding the front sight consistantly. I don't want to go to nightsites, rather, would like to find a fiber optic type front sight for it. I've looked around at the different stores nearby that carry HiViz sights and can't find one for the GP. Do they, or someone else, make one that I can order? I'm heading over to the HiViz website after this, but thought I'd get a quicker and usually better answer here.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you know about this option and have rejected it . . . but Ruger does make an optional red front sight for the GP100. It's the standard, black blade GP100 front sight, with a solid red insert. It makes the Ruger's sights more or less identical to those on the S&W 686.

Ruger catalog number RFS. Costs about $10. My revolver wears it. It's not a Hi-Viz sight, but under normal lighting I think it noticeably improves the sight picture.

Millett also makes a couple of front sights for the GP-100. One is a white ramp type, and the other is a red/orange. They take about thirty seconds to install.

Haven't seen any hi-viz type sights for them though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have contacted TruGlo and they told me they have discontinued making the fiber optic tube for the Ruger GP100, but that Cabela's may still have some so that is where I'm checking next. If all else fails, I may either order the front sight with the insert or just take some sight paint and paint it. I've just found it hard to find that front sight at the range the other day.

Thanks again.

I bought two fiber optic front sights for my GP100 from Midway USA. They are listed under Marble's Ruger Super Redhawk fiber optic front sight .332. They come in green or orange. Even though they are listed for a Super Redhawk they work fine on a GP100 and you can sure see them better than the factory sight. Here is a link to Midway.

Do a search for Ruger sights and you will find them.

I've owned a GP since they first came here. The only time I've had sighting problems was indoors at a cop range with really crappy flourescent lighting. Friggin' light bar was right over the shooting position. Washed out my front sight. Reflection on the serations of the sight.
Fibre optics wouldn't have helped. Taking off the serations and carboning it may have.
My point is that fibre sights may or may not help. It depends on the kind of shooting you do.

I use a Millett flourescent orange sight purchased from Midway- but here's something that works almost as well:

Paint the front sight with white nail polish and let dry. Follow up with the brightest, sluttiest orange nail polish you can find. The result will be very bright, and, if it doesn't work for you, easily removed. Costs under two bucks.

Works well enough on my Single-Six that I see no reason to change it.
