I was wondering what options I have in replacing the front sight of said gun. I recently picked up a used stainless 6" model and got it looking nearly new with some flitz, but the front sight is very difficult to make out at the range. I thought of painting it, but wanted to know if there was something out there that I could replace it with. I was hoping the GP100 front sight was the same, but alas, it is not. I looks as if it is pinned in and removing the pin allows the sight to be removed. I'd really like a fiber optic sight, but have not had any luck with that either (Williams, HiViz, etc.).

Thanks for any suggestions.

At one time Ruger sold front sight blades with a red insert for the guns with adjustable sights, but I have no idea if they still stock them. I vaguely remember them also having white-outline rear sights, but it's been a long time.

gharsh, you really don't have many options, short of having a GOOD gunplumber install something else for you. I have my origional Security Six (1976) modle with the standard blade. I have never seen anything aftermarket for the Ruger, especially since it is fixed to the barrel, or at least mine is. You could try a little paint, which could be the best answeer anyway. I didn't think too much to paint myself until I bought a Daly .45 that had the front sight painted. Kinda like that on that pistol, especially since after market sights for the Daly are few and far between.

You might check around ,I think Millet made a front sight for the Security-six at one time. The Gun Parts Corporation probably still has factory replacement sights available.

I have installed red-insert Millett front sights on two SS Security Sixes and was very pleased with the fit and sight picture. (Unfortunately, one was traded away and the other stolen!)

As a follow-up to my post to you on another board, I forgot to mention that there are two different front sight styles for the Security Six. The Millett website illustrates the difference, I think. The late style blades are relatively easy to find; Brownells, Numrich, etc. all have them. It's the early style that is very hard to find unless you get it directly from Millett. You'll need to know which style you need.
