Front sight for Win 94

I have a Win model 94 (post 64), that I put a Williams receiver sight on, that I like, but I hate the stock "bead" front sight, and Id like a narrow blade, instead. The rifle will be used for informal target shooting/plinking. Is this a big deal to change? I dont see how the front sight is removed/changed. Any suggestions?

It should be a simple dovetail, just knock it out sideways, and hammer a new one in, Both of mine are dovetailed in.

Win. 94 Front Sight

If you have access to a Brownells catalog they have all kinds of front sights that will fit your rifle. You can get thinner, taller, shorter and lots more. I got mine from them and it was a Williams Fiber Optic. I was lucky and have a friend that has a front sight pusher that was used to remove and install the sight without hammering. The sight should be on a ramp with a dovetail in it. If you really get to hammering on the front sight you might, but probably not, knock the ramp off. Then you got big problems. If you do get the front sight off measure the height and replace with a front sight as close to the original height as you can get. With the receiver sight you will have lots of elevation adjustment so getting close is probably good enough. We have a club in my area that shoot cast bullet silhouette matches and most all the rifles have receiver sights. The model 94 Winchester is pretty popular along with the lever action Marlin. Some of these guys can knock down 10 Rams at 200 Meters shooting offhand with receiver sights. Since the wind blows most all the time here I think that is great shooting. My best out of 40 has been 35 with a scoped .308. I thought that was lucky for me. The fellow that won the lever action unscoped shot 37 out of 40. That was using a 30-30 Marlin with receiver sight (Lyman) and Williams Rifle Fire Fiber Optic front sight. Good Luck.

Thanks JJ and Cisco. Cisco, I envy you for having a silhouette range to use! We had one until a few years ago, but the newly arriving "niehbors" put an end to that because of "too much noise". Now we just shoot paper. Thanks again-

Ive been looking in the Brownells catalog, and all the replacement front sights for my `94 are the bead type. Can anyone recommend a simple, thin blade that will work on my rifle? Thanks-
