I want to replace the front bead on my Marlin 1894 with a Williams Firesight. My factory sight dovetail width measures .372", the closest I can get from Williams is .340". (They only make them in .250, .340 & .531")
Is this too narrow for a snug fit?

Figured it was, glad I asked before buying. The only thing William's website says is ".340 medium width is for factory ramps such as Marlin, Remington etc."

Hsmith, I presume you are thinking about the dovetail cut. They are all the normal 3/8" rifle dovetail, I think Sisco is talking about the width of the barrel ramp and Williams is listing the sight base width.

My Marlin 39A has a ramp .374" wide. I'd use the .340" Williams so I could get the hood back on if I wanted to for some weird reason.

I was just looking through the Brownells catalog and realized the same thing Jim posted.
I was measuring the bottom of the dovetail, not the width of the ramp!
Williams also sells a hood that fits their "shorty" ramps, wonder if it would fit the grove cut in the Marlin ramp for the factory hood?

Good catch Jim. My Brownells confirms your statement. Braindead me, sorry.
