I have a 7mm x 57 Chilean Mauser. I am looking for information on how to use the raised sight. This is a very fine weapon all numbers match and it has never been fired post factory. I want to know what I am doing before I go to the range with it to minimize the number of rounds required to obtaine accuracy.

The sight where the bullet exits is the front sight. The rear sight is the one closest to the shooter. With the rear sight set all the way down should be a 100 yd setting which is the same thing as a scope set to parallax free at 100 yds as most centerfire scopes are set.

Welcome to the Forum, Kudzu. Nice to have you join us.

Please explain your question a little more fully, so we are certain we give you the right advice.
Since adjustments are generally made at the rear sight, the front sight is generally fixed.
It is used in the same manner other fixed front sights are used.

By the way, how does one know that an antique rifle hasn't been fired since the factory?
I hope some slick salesman didn't sell you a bill of goods.
