Just saw this, sorry for the late notice. I'm going to record it. Interested in seeing how this story goes. It's on PBS, but Frontline usually does very good investigative journalism. Should be interesting.

I tried watching a Frontline special about 'Operation Just Cause' and wasn't satisfied. didn't even focus on the mission, sidetracked the entire time. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Watching right now. I can only imagine where this is going....

Side note: my phone auto-corrected 'watching' with 'achtung'. I think my phone is foreshadowing this show.

In the first 10 minutes, we were directly blamed for Columbine and the Gabby Giffords shooting. The next 10 minutes were about the Kennedy assassinations, and while we weren't blamed for that, they did make a link.

It's quite a hatchet job.

Getting ready for work and just happened to turn this on. It was the tail end. I just saw the Giffords speech, the vote and the painting of the NRA as if they and we are some dark evil empire. What a load of garbage.

Yep, not much investigative journalism on this one. At least they recognize our power. They don't understand the facts and statistics when they are presented to them anyway.

What a hatchet job. But, they showed Wayne LaPierre give the one line, the one truth, that dispels everything else in that piece of ordure. If there was at least one armed responsible person there at any one of those massacres, many of those lives that were taken would have been spared.

Anti-gun laws made all those massacres possible.

Woody

Yeah, no surprise here. The name alone told me what this was gonna be about.

"Gunned down" and "NRA" together is a pretty dead giveaway of their message.

And I didn't even watch it.

I watched it. More firearms is not the solution. As long as the NRA refuses to compromise, tragedy will continue. Give a little and get a little.

Huh.....Well Batman why weren't you there???

I don't want many of the lives saved....I want all of them saved.

Please explain what connection the NRA has with ANY of the recent shootings. And once we "give a little" of our rights, what do we get in return?
Nice soundbytes....."compromise"..."give a little"..."tragedy".....is there a "for the children" in there too?

"I want all of them (lives) saved"
pure fantasy

I don't see how the NRA can be blamed for any of these tragedies.

'Give a little'? A little what? Like we gave in the past? Ranging from the BS Jim Crow based gun control laws of the far past, or the more recent stuff from the 20th century (1934, 1986, 1994)?

And 'get' what exactly? Get something from the anti's? That'll never happen. Besides, we already 'have' the 2nd Amendment. We don't want anything extra, just for that to be left alone, instead of continually having that right eroded any more than it has already been.

Tragedies happen, and they always will. Taking rights and things away from citizens will not stop that.

Exactly.

I think our position of criticising their comprehension of facts and statistics would be much stronger if we, ourselves, stuck very closely to facts and truths.

You could perhaps lead the way by removing the misquote of the great Thomas Jefferson, which appears in your signature.

DEMOCRACY is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. LIBERTY is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. - Thomas Jefferson

You seem to think compromise is what the anti-NRA forces want. They don't. What have they ever "given" us that we ddn't already have? They want to restrict our rights, not expand them. The only sorts of compromise I've seen from the anti gun forces is like this "If you let us ban THESE guns, we promise you we won;t try to ban THESE guns over here next." That compromise is NOT compromise. We earn nothing, yet concede to give up some of our guns for a promise others won't be targeted. That makes no sense to me, and isn't the sort of compromise I'm the least bit interested in making. There is NOTHING to gain we don't already HAVE. To think otherwise is foolish. Tragedy will continue whether the NRA exists or not.....the NRA doesn't enable criminals to commit murder. A lack of respect for human life enables such tragedy, and teaching the value of human life is beyond the capabilities and the responsibilities of the NRA. To somehow assume the lawful defense of Constitutional rights equates with enabling murder shows just how misguided the thought process has to be to come to such conclusions. The NRA isn't about enabling criminals, its about protecting the 2nd Amendment rights of lawful citizens. If you cannot understand that basic premise, theres really nothing left to discuss.

I agree. But until everyone's safety AND their continued freedom is guaranteed free from oppression by governments as well as individuals, I'll rely on self-defense by individuals rather than institutions.

JH45:
Please think before you post. The High Road mission statement requires us all to take the high road in our communications.
You have 17 posts, mainly one liners that do not contribute to the flow of discussion. You have now descended into condescending behavior with your 'batman' comment. That is the sort of behavior that gets threads pruned or closed, if continuing it results in loss of posting privileges.

You may not like the NRA, a surprising number of members will agree with you.

You may not support the Civil Right viewpoint on firearms espoused by many here, that is your prerogative. Over the years we have had outright opponents of civilian firearms ownership post here, as long as they have been respectful of other members, they have been debated cleanly and people who were impolite to them were warned by mods.

What you cannot do is insult members, or throw out a one line talking point and expect us to refute it. You have to defend your own position in any debate, let alone one where you advocate restrictions on a constitutionally protected individual right.

If you are simply posting for your own emotional satisfaction, there are other forums that cater to that behavior. The High Road is deliberately not one of them.

The High Road is private property. Membership is equivalent to being invited to the owners home for a friendly discussion. When in their home, you abide by their rules for acceptable behavior, or find someone else to visit with if you find them too constricting.

I am not a moderator, but I've been here for over a decade and the above is definitely how it works around here. Please consider your post before hitting reply. I delete fully a third of my non technical posts before hitting reply because they do not add to the discussion.

That's irrelevant, as their greatest fantasy, zero guns in the hands of law abiding citizens, would not stop crazy people from committing heinous crimes.
As long as the NRA refuses to compromise, [strike]tragedy will continue.[/strike]
we will continue to keep our rights and millions of lives will be saved by guns in the hands of law abiding citizens.
Give a little and get a little.
If this was what the antis wanted, we would have been done giving decades ago and the antis would have folded up camp. Problem is, for them "compromise" is simply a lie to take a little at a time until it's all gone.

You really do owe it to yourself to study up on the history of the anti gun movement before making such statements.

How about NO!
"Give a little" resulted in the NFA of 1934.
"Give a little" resulted in the GCA of 1968.
"Give a little" resulted in the FOPA of 1986.
"Give a little" resulted in the AWB of 1994.
Going your way, "Give a little" will result in blanket confiscations and Mexican-style terror. Which, I suspect, is the point being made here.

"Ignorance" means an absence of knowledge. It has nothing to do with intelligence; no correlation. I could rejoin Mensa, but I'm ignorant of quantum physics. (Not sure I know enough about women, either. :D)

JH45 is ignorant as to the reality of the NRA. No knowledge or understanding of our purpose, our reasons for being. The post is an example of intellectual laziness in not learning something of the subject before spouting off with an opinion.
