Interesting...following your lead, I just called cabelas and they wouldn’t take a back order. Put it on wish list was their advice. So, per the mention on the where are they in sale thread, i called bps and inquired about the federal small match primers that said available Dec 15-18th. 15 Min hold, 15 min call time.
I was told they would be backordered for me and am email generated upon shipment. I ordered five bricks. No shipping or hazmat due to ship to store. $242 total taxed for 5k.
I may or may not get them but it was encouraging to even allow a backorder.
I have a retired LEO down the road who has bought about 4k of primers from me since the pandemic. I've got him good on all but small pistol primers. 2k for him and 3k for me would be a great deal regardless of time.
Bps said they would maintain my backorder for 60 days before canceling if the product doesn't arrive
Then to try and find and employee to check for you. Lol.The SA BPS "theoretically" moved them from store shelving accessible to anyone to locked drawers at the knife counter (should primers actually be physically present) a while back. The shelf tags were removed and the shelving reconfigured.

ETA: Ive NEVER seen a store employee manning the knife counter, so I consider that sign an inside ironic joke in more than one dimension.
One interesting thing to me is the inconsistency between information found on Cabela’s & BassPro’s websites. In many respects BassPro has much more comprehensive information on the FAQ/Help areas, but it’s not always consistent with Cabela’s actual practices.Just an FYI, I ran across this that I think is probably an "official" update to BPS & Cabela's posted policies. While I would substitute the word "ainaccurate" for the word "unavailable" it speaks to what some, if not most, of us posting something helpful have experienced firsthand. Color emphasis mine for clarity, and IME extends to reloading component primers (Due to High Demand). To wit:
What products will not be available from the online inventory?
https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/hodgdon-varget-rifle-powders
- Some Boats, Trailers, ATVs, UTVs, Firearms and Rimfire Ammunition (Due to High Demand) or clearance items may be unavailable for checking in-store availability.
The only real way to find out if components exist available for purchase t any point is to check firsthand and may include need for direct assistance of a store employee such as checking the locked drawers at the knife counter of the San Antonio Texas BPS for primers per the in-store sign regarding primer location.
And there's this for backorders, timely based on some recent post in where components are available thread. I'm among those who have experienced this on plain orders that weren't backorders (up frontorders?) in 2020, at least as far as I was aware when I made orders that were subsequently canceled without my request.

I make them open my boxes too.I won't sign their logsheet that shows I picked up my orders until after the employee at the online purchases counter opens the box or boxes and every item on my order is verified and placed in a bag. Then I leave the counter and store with my bag of items I purchased online. I don't consider that as holding up the line, just IMO. I don't really consider doing this as holding up the line. If there's a discrepancy I want it to be revealed there at the counter and by having the counter employee opening the boxes and transferring all the items to a bag there's no question about me pulling any sort of shenanigans if a discrepancy is discovered. With the online orders counter at the San Antonio also serving as the returns counter there's been plenty of customers with item returns that take longer to resolve than unboxing my items, cross checking, and transfer to a bag. I'm never unhappy waiting for them to complete their business at the counter, everybody gets their turn and it takes whatever time it takes for them to resolve whatever they got in that line.
Mine work 95% of the time. I suspect it may be because I live in Phoenix. It's a hub for all kinds of things. I've only had one cancelled order.I've had my frustrations like many of you, but they come through more times than not. Ordered 11/27, received yesterday.

You’re fortunate. Since September 23 I’ve ordered primers five times. Three were canceled outright, one was delivered but without advance notice was reduced to just three sleeves vs the five bricks ordered, and the fifth is scheduled to arrive Tuesday. Before September I had much better fortune.Mine work 95% of the time. I suspect it may be because I live in Phoenix. It's a hub for all kinds of things. I've only had one cancelled order.
On a side note, I noticed that they had stockpiled primers in the stores, off the shelf, for black friday, in order to get people in the stores. They all showed available in the stores only, for about 2 days. Maybe this will happen again on another shopping period.
I've definetely been lucky. One of my orders of 4k spp got lost in the fedex facility. Two weeks after the package disappearing, I walked into a local reloading supply store, and saw that they SPP, limit 1k. I told the owner my story just un casual conversation, and that I bet someone stole them, or stashed in them in the facility to grab later. You’re fortunate. - Just started reloadingmy question is are you low on primers and only realizing it now? Or are you just wanting to buy because of a panic?
Do you burn through 2000 primers a month?
Maybe slow down your rate of expenditure until better times.
I like buying them when they are cheap not when they are expensive.
Depending on whom you are asking, I like buying cheap too, but they’re not cheap and I like shooting a lot.my question is are you low on primers and only realizing it now? Or are you just wanting to buy because of a panic?

This is when a call to customer service might be the way to go.Cabela's website is now showing the 'Add to Cart' button randomly lit up on a lot of ammo, primers and powder. When I click on it, it then says '0 in stock, not added to cart'. This makes it doubly difficult and frustrating to find what actually may be in stock.
All of this for me too.Depending on whom you are asking, I like buying cheap too, but they’re not cheap and I like shooting a lot.
Shooting is my primary, almost only, outside the home hobby since the pandemic. And, since I shoot only reloaded ammo, I need components.
I’m not constrained by cost, only availability. I buy what I want, pay what I must, whenever I can find it. (And I give or sell to my son and neighbor friend at my cost.). Overall while I don’t typically shoot 2000/month, it’s not at all unheard of.
Years ago, I bought Sunoco 260 103 octane leaded fuel for about .30/gallon. Now it’s equivalent is over $5.00. Prepandemic, I was buying as much as I wanted.
Looking forward,Depending on whom you are asking, I like buying cheap too, but they’re not cheap and I like shooting a lot.

I don’t have nearly that much but I’m good for a while.Looking forward,
If I were in a similar situation, I would stock up for about 2yrs. worth as that seems to be about how long these droughts can last. At $40 a box pre pandemic for 1000 primers that is a total of $960 plus tax and shipping. 2 yrs worth. at 1000 primers a month.
I currently have about 10 years worth for my needs.
For whatever reason, they're not showing where I can add them to my cart, nor when I checked around 3:30 AM CST after seeing your earlier post. I hope you & others are having success with this and it's just something at my end.
Place order for same item dec 12. Still in process, hope this means mine will eventually process.
Good for you and good luck. Let me tell you my last experience (last week)...I thought I was getting 10 sleeves of same thing (large pistol magnum) and when I opened the box at the customer service desk it was empty! I have little confidence may latest order will be fulfilled.Ordered cci large magnum pistol primers on the 12th and show shipped to store today. Still waiting for delivery but every time I've made it to shipped they have arrived. That 44mag bullet mold can't come soon enough
