Due to sequestration, the outdoor POW (Personally Owned Weapons) Range at Ft. Lee, VA is closed until 01 OCT (in all probability, until Sunday, 06 OCT). The POW Range is open (when open) to both military and civilians. For authorized recreational users, the indoor range at USMC Camp Allen, Norfolk, VA remains in full operation.

Camp Allen (USMC)

The POW range at Fort Lee, VA is up and running, but I stopped by the indoor range at Camp Allen (Norfolk, VA) to shoot. No dice - closed UFN due to a major fire involving a lot of the range building.

Sad to hear about the Camp Allen Range, is it still military only? I went there once back in 2005 when I was still in the Army Reserve. From what I remember it was nicer than the indoor range at Bob's. Which I would have taken advantage of it more when I was still in.

Allen/Lee

Yup, the Camp Allen Range is still down. Authorized DoD/USCG and dependents, and other DHS personnel and certain police activities are authorized.

The OIC at the Ft. Lee POW range wants the word out that it is available to everyone, military or otherwise. It is well regulated by the MWR DoD Civil Service OIC in the tower and the (at least two) RSOs on the two firing lines.

Sundays only, check-in 1000 to 1500, with firing continuing to 1600. Phone number at POW Range Control to verify that the range is or isn't otherwise used for weekend military training (Army Res., ARNG, ROTC, etc.) is (804) 765-1631.

Ft. Lee, Camp Allen & JBLE

The Ft. Lee (VA) POW range has been closed since MAY 14. The MWR OIC suddenly died, and MWR hasn't been able to find/fund/train a replacement. As of MAR 15, it remains closed. When it was open, non-DoD were authorized.

It looks like Camp Allen (USMC, Norfolk, VA) is finally coming back to life after burning out early last year: https://www.facebook.com/campallenweaponsrange . Mil, DoD Civ, registered LE only.

In NOV 13, J.B. Langley/Eustis (USAF/AR, Newport News, VA) opened their own POW range: http://new.jbleforcesupport.com/fort-eustis-outdoor-recreation/. An authorized user (and holder of a RSO qualification card) may be accompanied by one non-affiliated adult.

The Skeet & Trap Range at NAS Oceana (Virginia Beach, VA) remains open: http://www.discovermwr.com/thingstodo/skeetandtraprange.html . As far as I know, it is open to non-DoD personnel.
