Hi Friends!

A gun (Astra Cub .22) with constant FTE's...... What would be the prime suspect? Im guessing that the extractor spring is dead.

Shooting a clip of 6 I get about 3 FTE. Would that spring be a good starting point (to replace) to correct the problem, or, something completely different?

Please, Any advice is much appreciated!

How old is the .22? How many rounds have been fired through it? Do you have the same problem with all brands of.22 ammo?

Sorry...

It extracts the fired shell out of the chamber fine although it gets stuck when feeding the next round. If I hold the gun tilted to the right, so the shell can "fall" out it shoots fine.

I have tried several brands of ammo as well, It is .22short, and all I have been able to find is the sub-sonic type. Maybe they are not powerful enough to actuate the slide efficiently enough to remove the fired case?

Thanks Again!

I believe all .22 shorts are subsonic.

It sounds like you either need a new ejector, or a new extractor. On most the pistols the extractor and ejector are a team, if wither isn't properly adjusted, the gun won't eject properly.

Another option is that you have a burr on your chamber from dry firing or some pitting in the chamber.

The burr on the edge of the chamber would be located where ever the firing pin would strike the rim of the cartridge. Most .22s strike the top edge (12 o'clock) of the chamber. Dry firing .22s peens some metal into the chamber, which makes extraction difficult. The difficult extraction slows down the slide enough to affect ejection.

All you are looking for is a small dent on one edge of the chamber. If that dent is there, there is a good chance that you have ths problem.

Just about any gunsmith will have the tools to fix this issue easily.

I will investigate much more closely now!
Aside frome that, do you think a worn/weak extractor spring could have the same effect?

Thank You So Much for the information! It is much apprecciated!
